May 2, 20206 yr Most of Kentucky has been placed in a category 1 Marginal Risk Area for Sunday. This covers all of Kentucky except northern Kentucky. A few severe thunderstorms producing hail and/or damaging winds are possible Sunday afternoon. Isolated storms are expected by late morning from the Ozarks eastward into Kentucky. Conditions should exist to support severe wind and hail and a complex of thunderstorms that becomes organized on a scale larger than the individual thunderstorms but smaller than extratropical cyclones and normally persists for several hours or more. Portions of the Marginal Risk Area could require targeted upgrades to Slight Risk as predictability increases. Check back for updates
May 2, 20206 yr Author The showers will be ongoing by early afternoon. The possible severe storms should start firing around the 3-4 pm EDT time slot. The HRRR radar is from 1-8 pm. The following maps are new ones I've found. With these you can pick a point and within 110 miles they give the possibility of a severe condition happening. The first one is the damaging winds. This one is for hail I'll update everyone again in the morning.
May 3, 20206 yr Author The severe weather threat for later today has been upgraded for most of Kentucky by the Storm Prediction Center. Most of Kentucky is now under a category 2 Slight Risk Area. Severe Thunderstorms are possible from the Ozarks eastward into Kentucky. Conditions will be influential and coincide with a south/southeastward spreading cold front. A low-level influx of moisture precedes the front. This along with other conditions will be available for storms to form that could produce Damaging winds and severe hail. There is also a chance for tornadoes. So I'm issuing a level 1 BGP Tornado Threat Index. I'll be updating again early this afternoon.
May 3, 20206 yr Author Portions of western Kentucky are now under a category 3 Enhanced Risk Area. I will be back shortly with an update. Also a Severe Thunderstorm Watch has just been issued for western Kentucky.
May 4, 20206 yr Mt. Sterling had quite a bit of wind damage last night. Here are our boys sitting on a rather large pine tree that was uprooted in our backyard last night.
