South Laurel 71 Bowling Green 64

Very interesting game! When a team drives 3 hours in the rain, on a school day, deals with a time change, THEN there are close to 50 fouls called in a game.. there are no words!! None!!!! Basically one ref did most of that! South’s best player ended the game with ONE foul that he picked up in the 4th quarter.. so he never came out. Purples starters had to sit ALOT!

Let the kids play some! Geez!

I hate when that happens. It’s gotten better in the last decade because many games are streamed or videoed for later viewing and that might lead to more unbiased officiating. I wasn’t at this game and don’t know anything about it but it sounds from your description that this was an apparent attempt by the home region’s officials to take care of one of their regional teams.

I have always had a suspicion that the way regions rate their officials for post season tournaments is the cause of most of this homerism. Coaches rate their region’s refs at the end of the season and that is a powerful incentive to not tick off those who will be voting on your placement in the referee ratings, especially when the opponent is from outside the region.

I do know Bowling Green was 16-of-22 from the free-throw line and South Laurel was 17-of-21.
