Oldham County 60 Bryan Station 24

Featured Replies

Oldham County rolls into the 2nd round on big offensive performance.

Two big scores in the final minute of the first half settled the contest, after a gritty rally by the Defenders pulled them to within 21-16.

Oldham got a touchdown in the final 15 seconds of the half to make it 28-16, then got the ball back with 7 seconds left after Bryan Station fumbled the ensuing kickoff on their own 27 yard line. On the very next play, Oldham sophomore QB Sam Young threw a 27 yards strike over the middle to Carson Deckard for the score. The Colonels got the 2 point conversion to make it 36-16 at intermission and all but seal the deal.

Sheer numbers helped Oldham out. The Defenders - particularly in the trenches - were clearly gassed as the second half wore on. Oldham County had eight different runners carry the ball, and all had success as the Colonels gradually gained dominance on the line.

Bryan Station has a bright future....many of their key players are sophomores, and we saw some real playmakers out there. Tariq Mulder threw some nice balls - his completion percentage stats on the year are somewhat deceptive - and he has several sophomores surrounding him at the skill positions. The Defenders could be one of the teams making a significant jump up over the next two years - particularly if they can pump up the numbers on that roster. The difference between Oldham County's sideline (The Colonels have 95 players in their program this year) and Bryan Station's was stark.

Congrats to Oldham County and good luck next week at George Rogers Clark!

Kudos to the Defenders for bringing a strong battle to Buckner!
