Royer is very talented, in this game he played a lot better than Mayer did in the 1st game of the season. Of course that may also be due to the level of talent around him. There is a whole lot of D1 talent on this Elder team.

 

I agree now having witnessed both play.

 

Royer was a solid Tight End all the way around. His blocking was great and he did not miss a ball. One of his many receptions was with a defender in his chest and it was very impressive. It will be a highlight reel play.

 

Watching Mayer I was honestly much more impressed by his defensive ability. I went into that game only hearing the hype about him being a top rated tight end and left wondering why he’s not a top rated linebacker. Mayer is definitely a skilled athlete however in the Ryle matchup his defensive awareness is what stood out too me.

He’s just starting to develop into what he can be. His ball skills are elite and to your point his blocking has really improved. He finally started getting the notoriety he deserved in the spring. He plays with a chip on his shoulder as you all saw last night.
