Cooper/Beechwood (Scrimmage) Updates

Featured Replies

21-7 cooper at the half.

Cooper with scores on big plays. J Lee is not at Qb, but at receiving end of a couple scores.

Beechwood with a couple turnovers. Short TD reception by Williams.

Officials are in scrimmage mode too. A dropped handoff by Cooper declared down by contact and somehow a first down. On a big Lee touchdown reception, he went in motion towards the line of scrimmage but wasn’t called.

O’Shea, Campbell, and Waddell are 3 freshman to keep an eye on in the future.

Campbell gets time on varsity as a FB and NT.

O’Shea is the freshman qb. Kid is big and nimble. Also has a very good arm as he aired one out 45 yards down the field. Solid lb on defense.

Waddell plays rb and lb. He is also a good sized kid for a freshman and can move.

Cooper improved over last weeks performance at Scott. The team is coming together. There is some potential with this group. Cooper won the line of scrimmage all night. Impressed with the Oline and Dline. Lee in a different spot adds another dimension to this team. Young QB looked good, just needs the reps. There is talent on this team.

Cooper had like 12 kids not dressed and a few were some big kids. Are they missing contributors right now? Lee is good and the QB has potential. The RB was not bad either and they had some team speed. I do not think they will compete much in 5a with Cov Cath and Highlands. I thought Cooper looked on the small size. As for Beechwood they have a ways to go. Pass blocking was Ok but they really struggled run blocking and blocking down field. Noel must have expected it because he seemed rather laid back with what was happening on the field. The last TD for Beechwood in the varsity portion should have been picked off. Went right through the safeties hands. Was impressed with a few of the younger Tigers as they seemed athletic and physical. Campbell the freshman is really aggressive and comes down field hard on his blocks when at fullback.

Yes a few contributors are missing. The RB has great potential, fun to watch him develop. What I believe to be true is there are some upper classman that are also running backs who were real good over the past couple years. I have to assume they are ready to play as well.

Cooper looked much improved from last week’s scrimmage with Scott. I thought there was increased intensity in the Jags side. While there isn’t a ton of varsity experience or size with the Jags, they played very hard and like I said the key thing is they improved so that’s a positive with a young team.

I like the young QB. He’s learning and that will give coach Borchers time to develop him, something he hasn’t had the opportunity to do for a while. Jeremiah Lee is absolutely fun to watch and is going to cause headaches for EVERY team Cooper plays. He will have to be double-teamed on every down or he will make them pay. When he’s in motion he won’t be able to be doubled so I see some chess matches coming.

This team may be small in size but they have solid hustle and effort and should compete in every game.

Good luck this season Jags.
