That’s how it’s pronounced where I live.

If one attempts to add extra syllables to some of these words the morning gang that gather at the local town diner would think you was ‘getting above your raisin’.

I like how this can also apply to the way towns/cities/counties are pronounced by some, as alluded to earlier.

 

Some variations I've heard:

 

Lancaster — (Lank-ster) or (Lan-cast-er)

Pikeville — (Pahk-vuhl) or (Pahk-ve-uhl)

Boyle — (Bahl) or (Boy-uhl)

Richmond — (Rich-mund) or (Ree-uch-mund)
