The Cardinals (4-0) thrashed McCracken County 52-21, and now turn their attention to Graves County (1-3). Mayfield has won nine in a row over their county rival, all by at least two scores. The Eagles got trounced 41-7 by Paducah Tilghman in Week 3. The same PT that Mayfield handled 51-27 a week earlier.

Sometimes this rivalry can be unexpectedly close even when Graves is having a down year. I always enjoy it when its a barnburner. This will not be the case this year. Mayfield by 5 TDs

Wasn't it 2014 when Graves County started a little raggedly but played Mayfield a decent game maybe only losing by 14 points or so and then went on a memorable run to the championship game.

Of course Cory Crider ain't walkin through that door!

Mayfield beat them 21-0 that year to put Graves at a 1-3 record. Graves didn't lose again until the state championship game. That winning streak included their greatest win in the history of their program; a 7-0 win over your back-to-back-to-back state champion Bowling Green Purples. I still to this day cannot believe it.

However, like you said, there will be no Cody Crider on that field Friday.

Squirrel,

I am in total agreement with you here! I remember seeing that score with Mayfield back at that time and thought that was a pretty good loss for Graves. When it was time to prep for the Graves County v BG game, I thought Graves was a good team, but that BG playing at home should win the game and probably more easily than not.

I was at that game and to this day can not get over it. I will say that I still think Cody Crider was as good a LB as he was a RB. At least he proved it that game! Remarkable game!

Mayfield 49-7.

He currently plays linebacker for SIU

I’ve gotten to meet Cody a few times, I really like him. Graves does have another linebacker that was recently offered by SIU. However I agree Mayfield wins this one big.
