Highlands 11 Beechwood 1 (9th Region Semifinals)

Recommended Posts

Really bad day at the office for the Tigers' pitching staff. In the first two innings Beechwood had two pitchers combine for 8 walks, 2 hit batters, 2 wild pitches and a combined 91 pitches. Hit another batter in the 4th and then proceeded to give up 3 more walks to allow another run for the Birds. Had another wild pitch in the 5th inning good for two more runs for the Birds.

The Birds pulled Drew Rom after 4 innings in order to allow him to pitch in the region finals. Dreves and Juett finished things out for Highlands.

Game was pretty much decided there.

Highlands seems to have Beechwood's number.

It was a tough one to watch.

Honestly The Birds didn't swing the bat much and it paid off. Tigers were trying to make things happen at the plate and Rom did a nice job keeping them off balance. It's difficult to blame it all on pitching when you can muster only three hits.

Was one of the tightest strike zones I've seen. Tigers couldn't hit it. Seems like some plate umpires give more credit to higher velocity pitches where a slower breaking ball in the same location is called a ball.
