Game 28

Charlotte Knights (White Sox) 12-17 At Columbus Clippers(Indians)15-13

 

Columbus takes two of three from the knights, even though their offense remains to be in a season long funk. Today they were out hit 9-4 and still found a way to win 4-3.

The Clippers took a 2-0 lead in the third, when Adam Rosales plated two with a sing.

The Knights made this a 2-1 game in the fourth, on a Jake Elmore single.The Clippers had to use their only active bench player,Eric Haase. Haase moved to catcher,with starting catcher Francisco Mejia moved to left field. That forced starting left fielder Richie Shaffer to move to third. all due to Yu Chang, who started at third, was hit by a pitch and forced to leave the game.

 

Charlotte locked things up at two in the sixth, on a Casey Gillaspie homer (1).

Gillaspie seems to be coming out of his long funk, slowly.

 

The Clipper took a 4-2 lead on a long ball by,Eric Haase(2) in the bottom of the eighth.

 

The Knights made things interesting, with a run in the top of the ninth.

Jacob May got the RBI on a sac fly.

 

Final 4-3 Clippers.

Game 29

Toledo Mud Hens(Detroit) 16-11 @ Durham Bulls(Tampa Bay) 16-11

 

The Mud Hens used a two run first and a four run fourth to end their three game losing streak, with a 6-1 victory over the Bulls today.

 

Edwin Espinal had three of the teams eleven hits and he scored a run.

Mikie Mahtook had a dinger, two hits total and three big RBI, to lead the offensive show.Christin Stewart and two former Cleveland farmhands Chad Huffman and Ronnie Rodriguez each drove in a run. Ronnie Ron, had two hits.

 

Justin Williams drove in the only run for the Bulls.

Jake Bauers,Joe McCarthy and Jason Coats had two hits each in the loss.

Hunter Wood (L, 1-1) 3.38 ERA

Game 30

 

Akron RubberDucks(Cleveland)19-11 @ Richmond Flying Squirrels(Giants) 16-13

 

Akron wins their seventh game in a row, but had to work extremely hard to do so.

The Ducks only scored in two innings, but totaled six runs in those innings. three in each.

Richmond countered that by scoring two runs in the fourth and the seventh and then added a solo run in the eighth.

 

The Ducks got a solo bomb from,Willi Castro homers (2) to make it a 1-0 game in the fourth.Todd Hankins steals 2nd and third, after he hit a single.Connor Marabell doubles (4) in a run, to make it 2-0.Will LaMarche threw a wild pitch to allow the third run.

 

Richmond got two in the bottom of the fourth, on a two run bomb by K. C. Hobson (2) to make it 3-2.

 

The Ducks added three more in the sixth, on a three run bomb by Connor Marabell (4) 6-2 Ducks.

 

Richmond would get a two rub shot, by veteran Jerry Sands homers (5) to make it a 6-4 game. In the eighth Richmond added the games final run, on a Dylan Davis double (6)

 

Final 6-4 Ducks.

Toledo(Detroit) 8 Columbus(Cleveland) 4

 

Columbus jumps out to a 3-0 lead, behind a Brandon Barnes homer Brandon (3), a Yu Chang double (8) both in the first and a Richie Shaffer(3) solo blast in the 2nd.

 

From there it was the Toledo offense taking batting practice on the bad Clippers pitching staff.

The Mudhens got a run back in the 2nd, on a couple of Clippers errors that allowed Jim Adduci to core. Adduci swiped 2nd base and then took third on catcher Eric Haase and a throwing error on center fielder Brandon Barnes. 3-1 Columbus.

 

The Hens made this a 3-2 game, after four innings.

Edwin Espinal single and scoring on the play was Adduci, who had walked.

 

A six run six put this one away for Toledo.

Christin Stewart and Adduci both singled to start the uprising.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia singles to make it 3-3.

Harold Castro singles and it was 4-3.

Former Indians minor league player,Ronny Rodriguez doubles (8) and this was a 6-3 game.

Jason Krizan singles and two more scored to make it a 8-3 blowout.

 

Columbus added a run in the ninth, on a sac fly by Yandy Diaz and this one ended 8-4.

Game 32

 

Norfolk Tides(Baltimore) 17-13 @ Gwinnett Stripers(Braves 13-19)

 

The Tides found themselves locked at zero, until the third inning.

A wild pitch allowed the first run to score and then a single by DJ Stewart made it 2-0 Tides.

 

The tides made it 3-0 in the fourth, on a Sharlon Schoop single.

Gwinnett closed to within in one, with two runs in the fifth.

Phil Gosselin hit his first bomb of the season, a two run shot.

3-2 Tides after 5.

 

The Tides scored the next seven runs to go up 10-2.

Getting RBI were,Joey Rickard,Andrew Susac (3 RBI 1 HOME RUN) The homer was his third of the season.Jaycob Brugman(2 RBI) and Alex Presley.

 

The Stripers scored one final run, on a Sean Kazmar Jr. sac fly, making the final score 10-3 Tides.

Game 33

 

West Virginia Power(Pittsburgh)20-13 @ Lakewood BlueClaws(Philadelphia) 19-15

 

The Power was very powerful in the top of the first.

Chris Sharpe doubles (4) and then a Calvin Mitchell single made it 1-0.

Dylan Busby doubles (6) and this was a 2-0 game.

Rodolfo Castro singled to make it 3-0, after a half inning of play.

 

Lakewood gets a solo blast from,Quincy Nieporte (3) to make this a 3-1 game after five.

 

Top of the eighth and the Power have a little something going on.

Ryan Peurifoy doubles (6) and after a sac bunt by Lolo Sanchez and a Oneil Cruz, we had a 4-1 game.

The Power gets a run in the ninth to make the final 4-2.

Nick Maton got the RBI on a ground out to third.

 

Gavin Wallace (W, 3-0) 3.86 ERA

Connor Brogdon (L, 1-2) 3.95 ERA

Evan Piechota (S, 2) 1.29 ERA

Game 34

 

Columbus Clippers(Indians)16-17 @ Indianapolis Indians(Pirates) 16-16

 

Indy wins this one 2-1.

The Indians get a run in their home half of the first, when Kevin Newman homers (1) blasted a solo bomb. Newman would total four hits before the day was over. The Clippers, who have the 2nd worse offense in the league, manage just three hits on the day.

 

Jacob Stallings doubles (10) to make it 2-0 in the sixth and this turned out to be the game winning hit. Stallings, a catcher is hitting .311 on the season.

 

The Clippers got their only run on a Eric Haase single.

Cleveland has depleted their farm system with bad moves and it does not look like things will change anytime soon.

Adam Wilk (L, 1-3) 3.95 ERA

Game 35

 

Windy City Thunder Bolts(Independent) 1 Florence Freedom (Independent) 0

 

The Thunderbolts(3-1) only had three hits but that was enough to score a run and post the win.Blair Beck(Was a member on the Tampa Bay Rays organization) had two hits and the games only RBI.Darius Day(Once a member of the Texas Rangers)

Had the teams other hit.

 

Florence had four hits total and all were singles.

Game 36

 

Columbus Clippers(Indians) 6 Gwinnett Stripers(Braves) 1

 

Adam Plutko is pitching like some in the organization predicted he could and the Clippers, with their bad offense, 2nd worse in the league really needs this type of effort.

 

Melky Cabrera, who is using this time in Columbus as a spring training tune up,in hopes of being called up by the Indians, went 3-4 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored.

Eric Haase had 2 hits and drove in a run and he also scored one.

 

Nellie Rodriguez went 0-2 but had a RBI and more importantly DID NOT STRIKEOUT ANY.

Game 37

 

Charlotte Knights (White Sox) 1 Columbus Clippers 00

Charlie Tilson single in the top of the first was the only run scored in the one.

The Knights improve to 16-24, while the Clippers drop to 18-21.

 

The Clippers are hitting about .150 in their last 13 games, as their offense remains one of the worse in all of minor league baseball.Melky Cabrera and Adam Rosales had the only two hits for Columbus.

Game 38

 

Akron Rubber Ducks(Cleveland) 15 Hartford Yard Goats(Colorado) 3

 

This one was fun, being I am a Cleveland fan and love when the Indians farm teams win.

 

Ka'ai Tom is the for Akron player have a five hit game, as he went 5-5, with 4 RBI and he blasted his 4th and 5th home runs.

Andrew Calica had four hits, 2RBI and he hit his first double A bomb of the season.

Todd Hankins had a double and a solo blast, his first of the season.

Bobby Bradley(.195) had three hits and three RBI. He really needed a big night.'

Willi Castro had two hits and two RBI.

Joe Sever and Connor Marabell each drove in a run.

 

For the Yard Goats,Sam Hilliard had two hits.

Getting RBI were the following players.

Dom Nunez,Anthony Phillips and Omar Carrizales.

Game 39

 

Stockton Ports(Oakland) 3 San Jose (San Francisco) 2 10 innings

 

This was the third game of the night for me and it was a good one.

The Ports scored two in the bottom of the tenth to pick up the win.

 

Scoring started in the fourth, when the ports plated a run to take the early lead

Jonah Heim hit his (12th) double of the season and then scored on a Luke Persico single.

 

The Giants waited until the ninth to tie things up, on a Sandro Fabian home run(3)

The homer was his only hit of the night.

 

In the tenth the Giants took a 2-1 lead,when Jalen Miller to knock in Johneshwy Fargas. Fargas started on 2nd base as is the rule in minor league games, when the tenth inning begin.

 

The Ports would plate two on in the tenth to post the win.

Luke Persico was put on 2nd to start the inning.

Kevin Merrel pulled of a sac bunt to put the tying run on third, with one out.

Brallan Perez singled in the tying run.

Nate Mondou singled in the game winning run.

Game 40

Gateway Grizzlies (Independent) 4-2 @ Florence Freedom (Independent) 4-2

 

Matt Hearn walked to get things started for Gateway but he was caught trying to steal third.

Cody Livesay double,with one out and he would come around to score on an error by Xavier Turner. to put Gateway up 1-0 after one half of inning.

 

Florence got a two run bomb from Connor Crane to make this a 2-1 game, after one inning of play

 

Florence added a run in the 2nd inning, on a Ryan Rinsky single that scored Jordan Brower and this was a 3-1 game.

 

In the bottom of the sixth,Cutter McDowell( Lamar University) singles a run ion and we now have a 4-1 Freedom lead.

 

In the bottom of the eighth, with the bases load, catcher Ryan Rinsky walks and this is a 5-1 Freedom lead.

Game 41

(7 INNING GAME ONE OF A DOUBLE HEADER)

 

Mobile Bay Bears (Angels) @ Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (Miami)

 

This was a pitchers dual as their was only one run scored along with nine total hits.

Zach Houchins hit a RBI double in the first and that was it as far as scoring went.

Matt Thaiss had two hits for the winners.

 

For Jacksonville the offense only managed three hits,with all three being singles.

Game 42

Toledo Mud Hens(Detroit) 28-13 @ Columbus Clippers(Cleveland) 20-21

 

The light hitting Clippers offense came alive in a big way tonight, in a game that was shown on TV, with 23 hits and 11 runs. The 23 hits are a season high, while the 11 runs tie the season high, that occurred way back in the season opener against Indianapolis.

 

Brandon Barnes had five hits, including his 4th homer of the season. He also had 3 RBI.

Eric Haase had his third homer run and drove in three.

Jon Berti had three hits and raised his average to (.176)

Yu Chang had 2 hits and 2 RBI

Lonnie Chisenhall,Mike Papi. Yandy Diaz,Francisco Mejia,Adam Rosales and Eric Stamets each had two hits.

 

For Toledo, Ronny Rodriguez and Chad Huffman both former Clippers had 2RBI to lead the offense. In all Toledo had eight hits including the fourth homer of the season by Huffman.

 

Sean Brady (W, 1-0) 3.60 ERA

Ryan Carpenter (L, 1-4) 6.50 ERA
