Final. Oldham will take on South Oldham tomorrow night for the title.

Oldham pulls away for the win with a strong fourth quarter, outscoring the Wildcats, 20-7 in the final frame.

 

Rebounds were the stat that mattered most: Unofficially, Oldham owned the boards, 31-16.

 

Shooting was the other stat that doomed Gallatin; the Wildcats, one of the state's best shooting teams, managed barely over 30% from the field against the Oldham D. Oldham - the #6 shooting team in the state - finished around 43%, but shot basically 50% after the first period, when they were just 4 of 13.

 

The Colonels also excelled at the line, hitting 17 of 19, including 9 of 10 in the final quarter when GC had to foul.

 

Both teams got whistled for a lot of fouls, but while Oldham finished the game with two players with four fouls (Jackson Gibson and Christian Harper), the deeper Colonels were able to spread out their fouls, whereas Gallatin saw their two best shooters - Justin Rassman and Troy Coomer - foul out in the fourth quarter (Coomer with 7 minutes to play). Rassman and Coomer were both held to just 7 points, well below their averages of 14 and 17.

 

Neither offense was able to get into a rhythm during the game, thanks to great preparation by the opposing coach. Jon Jones' defense made it tough for Gibson to penetrate; the Oldham all-region guard still managed 11 points, but didn't take over the game as he is so capable of doing. Oldham's 57 points was 13 below their season average.

 

Gallatin had difficulty with the Oldham 3-2 zone the Colonels brought out in the second half, and the Cats managed just 37 points in the game - nearly 29 points below their season average.

 

Both coaches did a great job of giving their team a chance to win the game; in the end, Oldham's length and depth were too much for Gallatin.

 

Oldham improves to 28-5 on the season; Gallatin finishes another 20-win season with a 26-8 record.

In speaking to all the fouls called this might have been one of the worst officiated games I have ever seen. Give credit to both coaches for the defense but the officials did not let either side get into an offensive rhythm. I feel sorry for the 5th region these guys were just down right bad for both teams. I don't guess anyone told those guys that we paid to watch the players play the game not the officials disrupt and make for a horrid flow to what could have been a really good game between two good teams with two really good coaches.

One of the referee's in particular seemed to enjoy disrupting the flow of the game. That being said Congrats to Oldham, very impressive defensive effort.
