Warren Central 68 Glasgow 63 (4th Region Quarterfinals)

Featured Replies

Stressful but solid bounceback for Central. Both teams could not have been more on fire to open. They combined for 17-27 shooting and 10-13 from three in the first quarter. It was incredible. They slacked off some from there. Glasgow used a 9-0 run spanning the end of the second and start of the third to take their only lead at 39-38, but allowed an 11-3 run immediately afterwards. And that was when the moment that probably killed their game occurred - Dalvin Smith went down with a knee injury. He was pointing at his right knee, which he has twice torn an ACL in. He left in a wheelchair. He had been dominant defensively and was really getting after it on the boards. I don't believe his absence cost them the win, but it definitely changed the game as Central was finally able to successfully get into the paint. Central lead by as many as 13, but struggled to close again. They led by 9, allowed Glasgow to score at the rim, turned over on the inbounds, leading to another layup, and suddenly it was a five point game. Then turned it over on an over and back, allowing another score, and it was three points. They managed to cobble together enough stops and free throws to hold off the Scotties, but phew.....

Good news for them? They get a layup against Russell County, so Monday should be far less an issue.

Well I guess Smith was pointing as his ankle. He broke it. All things considered, it could be worse.

Very good game. Confirmed what I’ve been saying for a while now, Glasgow’s sophomore class could be the bunch to end the 14ths reign over the region.
