Warren Central 40 Marshall County 14

Featured Replies

Fair amount of domination in this one for the Dragons. First posession of the game, Marshall's offense was clicking as they marched downfield, getting inside the 15 or 10 yard line, but then lost yardage on their plays to move back to the 20. A field goal attempt bounced off the crossbar. Warren Central went three and out, and their ensuing punt was returned for a touchdown by Alan Williams.

After that, it was all Dragons.

Warren Central reeled off 32 straight points as their defense shut down the Marshals' offense and the Dragon O did enough to put the game from reach. Probably the turning point of the game came with under a minute remaining in the first half, with Central leading 18-6 and Marshall County with the ball on their own 45 or so. Marshall threw a deep INT to Khiry Hibbit, who returned it inside the Marshall County 40 yard line. One play later the Dragons were at the three, and the play after that they punched it in for a TD and an insurmountable 25-6 lead. In the third quarters the defenses stepped it up as there were two Warren Central first downs and none for Marshall County. Early in the fourth quarter Central added on a 50 yard touchdown pass to Nikko Beason on an excellent fake pass to him in the flat. The defender bit on the play (Central had actually thrown it about 8 times), and he was wide open 25 yards downfield to reel it in.

Marshall County got their last score of the night on a nice drive, punching it in with 5 minutes remaining, and the Dragons got a 30-40 yard run from Tevon Boards for the final score.

Marshall needs to beef up their non-district schedule some if they want to avoid this type of embarassment in the district. If Marshall loses next week, are they a #4 seed or out?

Warren Central's defense has really become the strength of this team. Besides the first drive and the late score, they played as close to a flawless game as they could have. The offense was another matter, as at times they moved it very well, and other times they couldn't buy yardage. The third quarter seemed to be one big attempt to kill the clock, and so runs in third and long were not uncommon. WC got the effort they needed from their defense in the quarter, that allowed them to not pay for being so conservative.

I was very impressed with Alan Williams. I do feel it is too much to put upon one player to ask him to carry the whole offense, but he is one tough guy. It seemed it took three Dragons to bring him down most of the time, and he was just bouncing off tacklers on his punt return touchdown. And he's only a junior......

It's a nice clean scenario in the district now. The winner of Christian/Warren Central gets the #1 seed, the loser #2, and the winner of Marshall/Graves gets the #3 seed, the loser #4. The current district standings are:

1) Christian County 4-0

Warren Central 4-0

3) Marshall County 2-2

Graves County 2-2

5) Greenwood 0-4

Barren County 0-4

So we could see another Marshall County thrashing at the hands of Warren Central again in two weeks?

Well I don't know about thrashing again, but yeah. It's possible for either of the top two teams to play either of the bottom two.

I was at this game and impressed with Warren Central's athleticism. I am still confused why they continued passing the ball so much instead of running out the clock (I am not saying they were trying to run up the score) in the second half. Marshall's only production came when Williams touched the ball, which he is amazing to watch, btw.

I agree with this, but, they'll still be a dangerous team in the playoffs..They play the strongest competition the last 4 weeks of the season and they will make adjustments....They've got a very good coaching staff and enough talent and depth to beat anyone on a given night....
