Don't be - Mason County may have just about the finest basketball facility in the Commonwealth, but every other sport plays second fiddle, including football. That is evidenced by the fact that boys and girls district soccer games and girls regional soccer games were played in the rain on the football field. There was absolutely no chance for the field to be anything but a mud hole last night.

 

Field turf would be nice; maybe after this week's laundry bill will convince the powers-that-be that it's economically viable!

 

A couple more notes on the game - penalties were kept to a minimum; I think there were only 4, and 2 of those were for offsides on kickoffs.

 

You know you've had a good game when about the only negative you can point to is only being 3-7 on point afters. The last one would have given the Royals a running clock with over 7 minutes left in the game.

 

Toughest game of the season for the Royals will be this Friday against JC on senior night with first place in the district on the line.

maybe the powers-that-be consider Mason County a basketball school:sssh: ... though it is true that Mason County has a rich history of basketball excellence... the football PROGRAM has only been in existence for about the past 10 years and the coaching staff and players have made it something that is respected by many across the state!... you'd think the Mason Co. powers would want to excel in everything and provide the means to do so. :thumb: ... someone said in another thread something about Mason Co and Mercer Co...what do they have in common?... well it appears the difference may be in the money and facilities that is put in to football... Mercer has a new $3 million indoor sports complex...

Maybe we should start to raise the money on our own through businesses and fund raisers to get turf.I can assure you it could be done may have to sell the name of the football field to be renamed but businesses would jump on this.

excellent idea!... maybe some Royals alumni... football fans at heart... could make this happen. Now if a business footed the bill for new turf and bleachers, then maybe rename the field, like... DeShaes Stadium. But just a new turf... I dunno. This is definitely something to explore... "if you build it, they will come":thumb:

 

another thought... If the basketball floor had dips in the wood or if the ball didn't bounce just right on it... don't you think 'them Mason powers' would be on top of that... you bet they would!!... so why a crappy football field?:irked:

I heard some of the Freshman from Lawrence didnt make the trip. But that doesnt excuse the low numbers. Lawrence co. freshman and JV both had good years but will it carry over to the varsity is any ones guess.

Hats off to the Royals this was your all's game from the 3rd period on . You all never disappointed me with your class all ways have been a class program good luck next week on senior night. As for LC will we got one game left and I would love to see them pull one out if for no other reason then for #77 Kyle Carter who is a senior and will be playing his last game ever as a LC Bulldog.:thumb:
