That's fine, why not every year? There's not at least one kid from this state that could play for UK or UofL? Some years they do look, but all the threads I've read say to me that there is true talent out there and the Big State schools aren't trying to get them. Just my opinion.

 

Some of that could be position need recruiting.

At almost every position on the field this year, there are kids from Kentucky signing with D1 FBS schools outside the state. And I think only 1 (Shannon Bishop with WKU) has signed or is going to sign with an in-state D1 FBS program.

 

Is it a "one year thing" as has been suggested in this thread? That certainly sounds plausible. Or do UK, U of L and Western collectively see this as a down year in Kentucky HS FB. Or is it more systematic of the current coaching staffs at the three D1 FBS schools to look elsewhere than in their back yards? I know that I believe there is terrific talent in this graduating class and so do a number of top schools around the region and the country.

You can say need but look at the number of receivers Purdue has. The last two years he's taken at least two that I know of, two of them from Kentucky. I believe Moore could play for Kentucky no matter who or how many receivers they have. Same with Louisville. But that's just my opinion. Did either school even offer? IDK.

Special is special

UK and UofL offer scholarships to only the elite players in each class but put most of their energy into recruiting outside the state. They are happy to welcome strong in-state talent as walk-ons because they will work their tales off to prove themselves for the possibility of a scholarship and being part of an in-state power 5 team. They pay in-state tuition and bring their KEES money and find a way to make it work because they WANT to play. Both schools get a lot out of those kids who often play their way onto the 2-deep or special teams depth charts. In 2017, 29 of 113 players on UK's roster were from Kentucky. 29 of 111 for UofL. Pretty sure most of those 58 kids were walk-ons.
