January 19, 20188 yr I got up early because of a sinus headache that started last evening so I thought I would take a look ahead weather wise. We look to be entering into an active weather pattern for the rest of January. I think that period will be more rain than snow. There seems to be a chance of some light snow to close out the month. For now, it doesn't look like much. February could be interesting. The Climate Prediction Center has Kentucky with an equal chance of above or below normal temperatures. Simply meaning it could go either way. It also has Kentucky above normal chance for precipitation. The following maps show this. With that all being said I took a look at the long-range CFS for February. I found something that peaked my interest. The middle of February could be quite eventful. It looks to be a return to a very wintry pattern. With frigid temps and the possibility of some good snowfall accumulations. Here's what the CFS is showing in the middle of February winter-wise. Simulated radar Snow Accumulations That is a foot of snow over most of Kentucky. Now let me reiterate this is not a prediction of any type. I well know that no one can predict the weather a month out. I just thought it was interesting because February marks the 3 year anniversary of my total knee replacement and I remember how snowy it was back then. So I just thought I would put it out there. Take care and enjoy the mild but rainy period we are entering.
January 21, 20188 yr I'm really hoping this rain we're supposed to get either Sunday or Monday holds off long enough for the snow-melt to have time to sink into the ground. There's a lot of standing water in the low-lying areas of Nelson Co. that could quickly turn into flooding along the Rolling Fork River flatlands.
January 21, 20188 yr Author I'm really hoping this rain we're supposed to get either Sunday or Monday holds off long enough for the snow-melt to have time to sink into the ground. Look for rainfall totals of around 1/2" in your area by the time the rain is over late Monday night or early Tuesday morning. There is a possibility of thunderstorms Monday but they'll be late in the day and I don't see anything severe as of this time.
