The Pikeville teams of 87,88,89. These teams were the stuff of legend. The 87 team was ranked #1 in the state in all classes. I was in grade school then but those teams remain the most dominate Ive ever seen.

I remember those teams getting over on Beechwood year in and year out.

They had alot of talent. What most people forget is they were better the next year but their QB went down against Cental Hardin with a broken fibula. He played against X while wearing a cast and took NC in at half with the lead. Early in the 3rd qtr he was hit by Bernard Jackson from X and was not able to return. It was a great game. X ended up winning it and the state that year.

Yes, I was there for the game It was a sold out Nelson County forum, with the crowd ringing the field. If memory serves, the Nelson QB was named Gabe Paul, and he was left-handed. I may be wrong but I thought he went out of the game in the first quarter. Anyway, even sans Paul it was a tight game with a 22-12 final score. I also seem to recall that the loss was the first suffered by Nelson County since 1995.

I'll let you know after Covington HC wins one this year.:sssh:

2005 Russell Season was a dream ride that I wish had never ended. Kids and Coaches came together to form a team , whose whole was much better than it's parts ... 2005 Devils could have been beaten by Fleming , Mercer , Belfry , Newport and OC ... thrills and drama in each of these games ... Kids and coaches always found a way ...
