They'll finish 6-4, but have no shot at the playoffs.

What makes anyone think the Panthers ever had a mighty program though? They've had a couple of nice teams, but a mighty program, not by a longshot.

Elder is extremely banged up. Their starting qb is out. A starting linemen (and I think his back up) is out. One of their better receivers is out. No 5. on defense is out. And their is one other starter on defense who is out. Elder is a completely different team right now (for the worse) than the team that struggled to beat CovCath and Highlands. With the starting qb and one of their better receivers out, their passing game is dead. And they never had much of a running game to begin with. Losing a couple of your offensive linemen does not help it get any better (wasn't impressed much with their o line when they were healthy). If you can't pass and can't run, better have a shut down D.

Their D is decent, particularly at the defensive ends. But their interior linemen are average at best and their middle linebacker (Hengehold) doesn't have the mobility that he had last year. He seems very stiff. Birds got a lot of yards running right up the middle. He may have gotten too big working out during the off season. If I can play coach for a moment, I'd put Hengehold down as an interior lineman, move Williams away from TB over to ILB (I'm told he is an extremely good LB) and put no. 38 (Battle) at the TB spot. Elder doesn't have the o line to play the type of running game Williams is suited for. They need a small quick running back who can take advantage of crease and take it 50. Coaching over.

Factor into that the loss of no. 5, who was exceptional against the Birds, and their D simply is not a shut down D. This wasn't one of Elder's best teams to begin with and add to that the injury bug, and it just isn't a real good team right now.
