Everybody keeps saying something like a GM position, which do they not understand what a GM does? A GM negotiates contracts for players, finds free agents and typically has the final say in drafting, coordinates the scouting department (which the Bengals are lacking), and manages the team's salary cap.

I agree that things like the drafts have been better for the Bengals while he's been here, but how much of that was just his opinions or insight or just plain luck? Look at how many busts we've had and how many contracts have been messed up, so why would you want Marvin in control of all that?

First of all it doesn't look like many want Marvin for that. Second a lot of even former players like John Lynch this year just have jumped in and became a general manager without ever managing a salary cap before so people can do that. Third every single team in the NFL has bust or draft picks that don't pan out. Also what contracts have they messed up recently? Please don't say Whitworth. This line was bad with him last year. If they signed him back for the same huge deal he got, he would not have made this team a playoff team. Maybe they would have won one more game with him. Then people would have said they were dumb spending so much money on an old player who didn't even make much of a difference.

The Bengals messed up by keeping Marvin and believing in Dalton. Other than that they imo have done a good job basically doing any unofficial rebuild and put some key young pieces in place. Now this off season get a good coach in, and focus on the line and they can be right back to in it. So I do think Marvin had a good plan in place. He just doesn't need to be the one trying to execute it anymore.

I think a clean break is good for both. I always thought Marvin would be a better GM than head coach, but he has to be in a place with full control. I have a feeling these past couple years, Mike Brown started pulling the strings again in regards to personnel.

Mike Brown has ALWAYS had the strings in regards to personnel because of $$$$$$$$.
