Oldham County vs. Bullitt Central

Featured Replies

Oldham County (3-3, 1-1 district) plays host to the Bullitt Central Cougars (4-2, 1-1 district) this Friday night in Buckner, KY.

Oldham rallied from a 19-14 halftime deficit to North Bullitt last Friday behind backup quarterback sophomore Parker Caudill, winning 39-19 over the Eagles to even their district mark at 1-1. Oldham's strong running game netted 320 yards against North Bullitt, led by Lucas Jones' 248.

Bullitt Central also saw its district mark evened at 1-1 last week, but due to a narrow loss. After opening district play with a 17-14 win over North Bullitt the week before at home, BC went on the road last week and was edged by its other county rival, Bullitt East, 19-13. BC has cleared the halfway mark of the season with a winning record largely thanks to a prolific running attack; junior Daylin Huff had just under 1,500 yards rushing through the first FIVE games of the season, and the team is averaging over 280 yards rushing a game. It's very rare to see BC throw the ball - through the first five games, they barely averaged 4 attempts per game - but Huff has been efficient when he does throw, connecting on nearly 60% of his passes.

The winner just might have the inside track to a home field first round playoff game; South Oldham looks like a strong favorite to win the district, but that #2 spot remains wide open.

For those who cannot make the contest - or want to watch it again afterward - the video broadcast will be on the internet at The Pegasus Sports Network - PSN. Pregame at 7 pm ET.

Predictions? Who wins the battle of the trenches in this one?

Bullitt Central won last year's matchup, 10-7, in Shepherdsville, behind 192 yards rushing.

Would love to hear from the BC faithful. I will be seeing BC against Oldham this Friday and against South Oldham next Friday....what will we be seeing?

Colonel,

Thanks for the write up on this one! I enjoyed reading it. I am not a BC faithful, but since they play my Purples the last game of the regular season, I have tried to keep up with them.

Your info about BC is the best I've come across. I also don't know a ton on Oldham County.

BUT, I did see Bullitt Central at the Central Hardin 7v7 back in July and of all the teams there, I would have selected them last if I were picking teams. But that goes right into what you were saying about them being a running team. Makes perfect sense to me.

I put the teams into CALPreps and it said Oldham County would win this game 19 to 14. I think that sounds about right. Good luck with this one!!!

If you remember last year OC lead the entire game (scored on opening possession) until a little over a minute left in the game when BC scored to tie it up and on the ensuing kickoff OC fumbled it away and BC kicked a game winning FG as time expired. As much as I like a good close game I'm hoping there is a little more scoring this game.

I'm biased so I won't pick a winner but......... Go OC!!!!!!!

District standings:

South Oldham 2-0 remaining schedule: Bullitt East, Bullitt Central, at North Bullitt

Bullitt East 2-0 at South Oldham, at North Bullitt, vs. Oldham County

Oldham Co. 1-1 vs. Bullitt Central, at Nelson Co., at Bullitt East

Bullitt Central 1-1 at Oldham County, at South Oldham, vs. Nelson County

North Bullitt 0-2 at Nelson Co, vs. Bullitt East, vs. South Oldham

Nelson Co. 0-2 vs. North Bullitt, vs. Oldham County, at Bullitt Central

Thoughts:

This may be the most pivotal week of the district season, as BE and South battle for sole possession of first place, and Oldham County battles Bullitt Central to see who will challenge BE for that crucial 2nd place spot.

The winner of the South vs. Bullitt East game controls their own destiny for the regular season championship. South might have a slight edge, playing two of their final three games at home.

Bullitt Central has a tough road to go if they want to secure a home playoff berth in round 1; even if they beat Oldham and BE loses to South, they still trail BE in the tiebreaker due to head to head. For BC, their path is a little easier if the Chargers can upset the Dragons in Crestwood, as BC still has a big game with South on 10/13.

On the other hand, if South defeats BE, Oldham County holds its destiny in its own hands; if the Colonels win out over BC, Nelson Co, and Bullitt East, they claim the second playoff berth and a home field game - after back-to-back seasons sitting on the sidelines during the playoffs.

Both Oldham and BC face one of the 2-0 teams and Nelson County. So their head-to-head matchup will be so crucial.

Things look very difficult for the two 0-2 teams. North Bullitt has to play both South Oldham and Bullitt East; their other remaining district game is against 0-2 Nelson County - who is 0-6 overall and has scored only 89 points all year. But if the Eagles lose the two they will be expected to lose, and win the one they will be favored in, they will finish out of the money.

Nelson County, in the middle of a major rebuilding year, looks to be a year away from contending for one of the four playoff berths.
