South Florida 43 Temple 7

Total domination by the USF defense. Temple's lone score came off a Quinton Flowers fumble, which was picked up and ran in for a TD.

 

The Owls had only 85 total yards in the game. -4 yards rushing.

 

The Bulls forced 6 turnovers, 4 interceptions and 2 fumbles.

 

Temple got into USF territory for the first and only time in the game with under 7 minutes to go in the 4th quarter. The score was already 43-7 and the second strings were in for both teams. The Owls had 1st and 10 from the USF 34 during that drive, but then lost 15 yards on the next 3 plays.

 

The Bulls had two 100 yard rushers, Darius Tice (117) and D'Ernest Johnson (106).

 

It's nice when Quinton Flowers can have a bad game, like he had, and the Bulls still win handily. Q rushed 16 times for 59 yards and was 8/20 passing for only 96 yards. He did score a TD, but he also had a fumble, the pickup and score Temple forced in the 2nd quarter.

 

And then there was that unnecessary roughness penalty on Flowers.

I've been reading what Booger and Joey said throughout the game, last night. The tendency is to down play South Florida's opponents. "Illinois is horrible. Temple is horrible." Temple returned a large portion of the defense that stymied USF in the Bulls' only conference loss, last season. Temple did win the conference last season.

 

Don't be surprised if San Diego State jumps USF in next week's poll, regardless of this win.
