GRC's defense was flat-out nasty in this game. They brought the heat up front with the blitz, hassling NL QB Adrian Wardrup into a 9-for-23, 70-yard passing night with 3INTs and a TD. He was sacked three times and hurried every other time. All 70 of those yards came in the second half, after GRC had built a 33-0 lead.

 

If that weren't enough, GRC held NL to 45 yards on 32 carries. Figure in NL's penalty yards (9-for-123) and the Jags totalled minus-8 yards.

 

GRC's Timmy Davis was a big star in the game, recovering a fumble inside the NL 5, as well as picking off a pass. He had another INT overturned on a penalty.

 

Also big for GRC was Tatum Lewis, who recovered an NL fumble on a bad snap on a punt attempt, returning it to the NL 5. He also returned a INT 79 yards for a score.

 

The GRC-Lincoln game should be a dandy.

As Jim Schue said NL turned the ball over all night, never could get anything going. This is a credit to the GRC defense, they are the best defense that I have seen. I remember seeing a thread about the inconsistency of GRC they really pulled it together tonight. I haven't seen Lincoln play but if GRC plays as well as they did tonight they will give Lincoln all they want.

He had 76 yards on 16 carries and a TD; 70 in the first half, most of it coming on GRC's one long drive.

 

Also, Dougie Mason had a pretty nice game, going 9-of-12 for 108 yards and 2TDs, and he rushed for 22 yards and another score. I overheard a couple of the GRC assistant coaches saying it was his best game yet. The yards don't really knock you over, but he was efficient and did what needed to be done, making good decisions all night.

 

Because of the short fields via turnovers and the punt return and INT score, GRC only had 226 total yards, but that was all they needed. They were penalized 11 times for 125 yards.

GRC earned a short field in the first half and took advantage of it. GRC really came to play tonight and showed why they were the favorite to win the district in the eyes of many (myself included). When they play defense like that, they are hard to beat.

I really thought that North Laurel could keep this one close. Congrats to GRC on the win and good luck to NL on the rest of your season.

I don't feel I was being unpatriotic to the Laurel County teams by picking GRC as the preseason district frontrunner, ... just an honest assessment of what the teams were bringing back this season. It does look like the GRC vs Lincoln Co game could not only be a dousy, but will put one of these 2 in the drivers seat for a regular season crown.

Im surprised I thought this would be more of a game.
