February 19, 20179 yr For the past several runs of the GFS it has been showing the possibility of strong to severe storms on Friday 2/24/17. The Storm Prediction Center has parts of Kentucky with a chance to see some of these storms. I will update as we get closer.

February 19, 20179 yr Author Sunday evening update: As of this evening the chances for more widespread strong to severe storms have increased for next Friday. At this time the main threat looks to be damaging winds. The timing is still up in the air. The GFS is showing the possible storms happening during the afternoon into the early evening hours. February 21, 20179 yr Author The models are staying consistent with possible severe weather on Friday. The Storm Prediction Center today expanded the area some that may see these storms. Still too far in advance to really predict anything but for now it looks like damaging winds is the main possibility. I'll update Tuesday.
February 21, 20179 yr Author I will update later this evening. I want to go over the model runs some more. Now that Friday is in the NAM window of time. I'm a little concerned with what I'm seeing but I want to caution everyone that things will fluctuated as we get closer.
February 22, 20179 yr Author Tuesday evening update: This update is a snap shot in time so there will be changes as we get closer. Some of the ingredients are coming together for the development of supercell thunderstorms on Friday. Also there is a slight uptick for the chance of tornadoes. Afternoon temperatures for Friday for now look to be in the mid to upper 70s. The second map shows the dew points in the mid to upper 50s which means the moisture content could make the air semi-juicy for supercell development. Look for west-southwesterly winds which could bring in more moisture from the south. The other maps show the possible energy in the atmosphere for strong to severe storms. The EHI, Supercell and Significant Tornado Parameter maps. All of the maps are centered around 4 pm ET Friday. I will update in the morning. Stay weather aware the rest of the week.
February 22, 20179 yr Author Wednesday morning update: As I expected last night the Storm Prediction Center has enlarged and increase the threat area for strong to severe storms for Friday. Right now there is a level 3 Enhanced Risk Area for severe storms over much of Indiana and parts of SW Ohio. Parts of Kentucky are in a level 2 Slight Risk Area for severe storms. Those in the Enhanced Risk Area could see the storms late afternoon on Friday. The squall line that looks to develop before the cold front could develop a supercell storms that could produce tornadoes. Damaging winds and hail will also be possible. The parts of Kentucky in the Slight Risk Area could see the storms during the early evening hours on Friday. The main threats look to be damaging winds, hail, and a tornado or two. I will update again later this evening. You can also follow our Twitter Weather page for updates throughout the day. Everyone should be weather award on Friday.
