Looks like KABC Regional POY will not be used to determine Mr. Basketball finalist as it has the past few years. The email below was sent out accepting nominations to create a ballot to be voted on. Personally I like this way better as some regions might have outstanding players with only one becoming a finalist. See below:

 

Nominations for 2017 Mr. and Miss KY Basketball will be accepted January 23rd - February 6th.

 

Nominations for the 2017 Mr. and Miss Kentucky Basketball recipients will be accepted electronically starting Monday, January 23rd. An email with the nomination page link will be sent to all Kentucky high school basketball head coaches, members of the KABC and select Kentucky sports media. All nominations must be submitted by 9 AM (EST) Monday, February 6th.

 

An email containing the link to the final ballot listing the top nominees from each region will be sent out on Friday, February 17th. The final ballots must be submitted by 11:59 PM (EST) on Friday, February 24th. The male and female with the most votes from the final ballot will be named Mr. and Miss Kentucky Basketball on Tuesday, March 14th in Lexington, KY.

 

In addition presenting the 2017 Mr. and Miss KY Basketball Awards, KLEF will also be presenting two awards in honor of two very special Kentucky athletes. The 3rd Annual Donna L.J. Murphy Award will be presented to a female senior high school basketball player and the 4th Annual “Wah Wah” Jones Award will be presented to a male senior high school multi-sport athlete. The winners are selected by Donna L.J. Murphy and the family of the late “Wah Wah” Jones.

Could have. I know one year I think the 7th Region had a three way tie for player of the year and I think the 9th Region had two players tie for it once. All the ties were for the purpose of having them included in the voting process for Mr. Basketball.

Since they will not be using POY winners from each region and any senior player in the state can be nominated. You could have 200 players on the ballot to be voted on in theory.

 

I have no idea how many they will invite to the ceremony but they did raise the price for a table of 10 from $500 to $650. This is a fund raiser for them and if you have ever been, a very good fund raiser at that.

It very well could have played a process. Maybe someone else has more insight. I like the fact they did this as some regions might multiple players that should be considered.

everyone gets a trophy mentality. I'm sorry but their shouldn't be more then 20 kids as "finalist".
