Greenup County avenged a loss in their tournament finals from a year ago, advancing to the 2016 Greenup County/Stultz Pharmacy Holiday Classic championship game with a 54-47 win over the Brossart Mustangs.

 

The Musketeers led 12-9 after a quarter of play, and extended the lead to 28-16 at the half after going on a 10-0 run, in which the Mustang 3-point shooters were unable to connect.

 

The lid came off in the third quarter as the Mustangs outscored the home team 20-9 including a trio of long-balls, making the score 37-36 Greenup County after three quarters.

 

Junior University of Cincinnati (baseball) commit, Gage Hughes, literally and figuratively put his team on his shoulders, scoring 17 of his game high 31 points in the final stanza, and was the only Musketeer to put points on the scoreboard.

 

Zach Hamberg led the Mustangs with four 3-Pointers and 12 points. No other Mustangs scored double figures.

 

The Musketeers will face West Carter in the 5pm Friday afternoon finals. Brossart will play East Carter in the 3pm third place event.
