NKY Scoring Efficiency

Featured Replies

Now this is a statistic that means something. I don't know some of the kids listed but I'd venture to say the higher you are on the list the more wins your team would have.

Have been intrigued by this concept, so did a little research of some recent high volume scorers to see what the numbers reveal.

Ben Weyer -733 points on a 30-5 NCC team in 2016. FG scoring efficiency of 1.28.

Mason Faulkner -946 pts. on a 16-11 Caverna team in 2016. FG scoring eff. of 1.28.

Connor Maddox -650 pts. on a 24-7 Augusta team in 2016. FG scoring eff. of 1.25.

Brent Bach -1,002 pts. on a 20-12 Augusta team in 2014. FG scoring eff. of 1.39.

To put this calculation into simplest of terms, how many points would a player produce if they put up 100 shots in game conditions as that player competed over a season. A 1.25 FG scoring efficiency rating means that player would have produced 125 points. FT are not considered part of this stat.

Love this stat. Thanks for posting.

We often talk about playing at the next level, so I looked at Bellarmine's (one of premier DII programs in the country) scoring efficiency. The entire Bellarmine Knights team has a 1.23 scoring efficiency with Augusta's Bent Bach @ 1.46 while playing 14.5 minutes per game and Newcath's Ben Weyer @ 1.39 on 11.5 mpg.

Where do you find this list?

Where do you find this list?

You have to calculate it from team stats. The question is answered as to how many points a player scores from the field each time he shoots. Easiest way to calculate is take total pts scored less pts from FTs and divide by the # of FG attempts. Example: Player A scores 24 pts from field on 16 attempts producing a 1.50 scoring efficiency. Player B scores the same 24 pts but had to jack up 28 attempts producing a .875 scoring efficiency. Simply B had to take 12 more of the Team's total shots to get the same offensive production. IMO this stat is going to get more and more prominence in measuring a team and player's performance.

Expand to a season's calculation and you would see Player A would have produced 150 points on the 100 attempts he would have actually taken, and Player B would have produced 87.5. Hope this gives some clarity?
