What a great team effort by the GRC Cardinals. Leading scorer for the Cards was Cooper with 19 points. What a game by Philpot tonight. He had several blocks and rebounds great job young man. Taylor got into early foul trouble and Jordan Graham took over the PG position and did a great job, he had several assists. He sees the floor so well. Just a Sophomore, he is going to be a very good player. Can't say enough about Johnson, he plays his role so well. Jenkins and William did a great job off the bench. Williams can lite it up from the 3.

What won this game for us tonight was our defense. We held their 3 leading scorers to 11, 8 and 6 I believe. We stopped the drive to the basket and hit the boards hard. Just a great team effort by all of our players.

Great district win for the Cards. Bourbon Co has a very good team. I was hoping we would beat them but didn't think it would be by this much.

Golly, the 10th is going to be a roller-coaster of the highs of wins and lows of defeats by top 7/8 regional contenders this year. March is going to be wildly unpredictable.

Cardinals Amass 23 Assists in 22 Point Victory Over Bourbon County

Call it what you will, but GRC’s 22-point victory over Bourbon County on Friday night was the largest margin of victory over the Colonels since the 2012 40th District Tournament – which just happens to be the last GRC Boys Basketball team to win the 10th Region. This was accomplished with unselfish team play throughout the game. The Cardinals had 23 assists to only 10 for the Colonels. Jordan Graham had 10 of these assists – 8 of them in the first half. Graham played point guard for much of the first half due to Chase Taylor’s foul trouble.

The Cardinals were led in the first quarter by Ryan Cooper. He had 8 points in the quarter, including 2 three-pointers from behind the arc. The Cardinals led, 20 to 15, after the first quarter. PJ Williams and Jehdon Jenkins led the second quarter barrage. Williams splashed 2 treys and Jenkins was a “bull” inside for 5 points. The Cardinals led at the break, 37 to 28.

Ryan Cooper began a, 6 to 0, run by hitting a 3-pointer to begin the second half. However, the Colonels went on a, 9 to 2, run of their own to cut the lead to 8 at 45 to 37 with 6:49 remaining in the fourth quarter. Chase Taylor hit a trey and JJ Johnson knocked down 2 free throws to extend the lead to 13 with 6 minutes remaining. The Colonels went on another run with 5 unanswered points to make the score, 50 to 42, with 5:15 remaining. However, the Cardinals played lights out the remainder of the game. GRC went on a run of 16 to 2 to finish the contest. Will Philpot and Ryan Cooper each had 6 points during this run. The final score was 66 to 44.

Team statistics were as follows:

Rebounds: GRC – 35, Bourbon County – 26

Turnovers: GRC – 13, Bourbon County – 11

Assists: GRC – 23, Bourbon County – 10

Individual statistics for the Cardinals were as follows:
