As of this morning the NAM has warmer air moving in on Saturday some parts of Kentucky may reach the mid 60s especially in the western part by Saturday evening. With this warmer air maybe moving in this increases the chance of thunderstorms as the cold air mass marches through Kentucky. We may see a temperature drop of almost 20 degrees in a short time period as the front passes through your area. This will cause the chance of freezing rain before it turns over to all snow.

 

For now the accumulation totals for snow look light also the freezing rain accumulation looks the same way. Best chances for accumulating freezing rain looks to be in southcentral Kentucky. I will update again later today.

Saturday most of Kentucky may see scattered showers/rain throughout the day. With most of the state seeing highs in the mid 50s to low 60s. As the leading edge of the Polar Vortex crosses Kentucky late Saturday night a line of thunderstorms may develop. For now nothing looks to be severe. The problem maybe after the line of storms pass the cold air will change the rain into freezing rain. Temps will fall into the mid 20s to upper 30s by early Sunday morning and continue to slowly fall throughout the day.

 

Early Monday morning the lows for some parts of Kentucky could be in the single digits. Mainly in western Kentucky and northern Kentucky areas.

 

For Sunday the accumulation of freezing rain may range the heaviest in a line from around Dry Ridge area back southwestward towards Bowling Green. With the heaviest amount in the bluegrass region of central Kentucky.

 

The severe weather threat has increased some for Saturday. Most of Kentucky is in, as of now, a Marginal Risk Area for strong to severe storms. I will post and update later this evening.
