Johnson Central standout and UPike commit Mason Blair (2017) scores 50 points in a win against Lawrence County 93-78. In the game Blair hit 12 3FG (5th most in KHSAA history) and broke the school record for most 3FG in a career (record was held by Mikey Walters with 238 - Blair now has (244). Blair also broke Doc Johnson's school record for made 3FG in a game - Johnson made 10 versus Allen Central in 2002.

It was the 3rd 50 point game in Johnson Central history (David Couch 50 points vs. Paintsville in 1979 - Jamie McCarty 56 vs. Sheldon Clark in 2007).

Cole Crace (Johnson Central - 2017) had 25 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block. Timmy Dalton of Lawrence County had 42 points and 10 rebounds.

Fun game to watch!

He was 6/8 3FG in 2nd quarter of the game and was 9/16 3FG in 1st half. At one point he hit 5 consecutive 3FG on 5 straight trips down the floor. They were very contested and deep!

He was in one of those zones like he got in when he scored 30 in the 1st quarter versus Belfry last season.

There were two other great games as well. Timmy Dalton (Lawrence County) scored 42 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Was very tough to stop down low and also shot a very high percentage.

Cole Crace had a monster game as well with 25 points, 9 boards, 6 assists. He was attacking the basket all night and scoring through traffic. Kinda overshadowed by Dalton and Blair, but Crace can play.

Very fun game to watch!

They ran box and ones and no help on Blair. When Lawrence did that, Crace shot layups going the basket (just too good an athlete for a 2 or 3 defender to stay in front of him). Then when Blair is hitting 30 footers over double teams, there is nothing you can do.

For Dalton, JC ran double teams at him as well, he just beat them and got in the paint and finished. He worked very hard for his buckets and hit tough shots as well.

The defense of both teams needs to get better, but last night, the offense was way ahead. Looking at the box, one might think no defense was played and I get that, but this game was about superior offense against what I would say is solid and improving defense. There was alot of intensity in this game. The skill sets all over the floor in Crace, Blair, and Dalton were beating defenders who were playing hard and had themselves in the right place. It was just one of those nights as tough shot after tough shot went down both ways. Very good players, playing very well offensively.

I mean what do you do when a kid fades away from beyond the volleyball line with two players on him and hits 5 in a row. There are not alot of kids that can make the percentage Blair makes, from the distance he makes them, with no one on them. Let alone with the gimmick D's he see's.

When Blair scored 30 in a quarter against Belfry they called 4 timeouts in the quarter and did everything against him to include a triangle and 2 with the two guarding him. He hit one from about 40 feet with two very good defenders all over him right after a Belfry timeout, just after he crossed half court by where you check into the game. It was amazing to watch and he got in one of those zones for about 3 minutes in the 2nd quarter last night.

An amazing performance by Mason Blair. He missed like his first 4 shots and then went CRAZY!!!! His shooting percentage has really improved this season while most of his attempts are well beyond the College 3-Point line.

Can not believe he was taken out and not given a chance to break the record of 56pts. in a game. I know he tweeted his knee, but he hit a 3 immediately after to get to 50!!! You have to at least let him finish as HOT as he was.
