West Jessamine 4 Lexington Catholic 0 ( State Championship)

Congrats to West!!!

Very deserving. Def the hardest road to the title.

How one sided does this result make the bracketing look? Ridiculous to have nearly all the top teams on one side of a bracket. A 4-0 championship is the result.

Two sides to this argument. You could also be asking how two basically Lexington schools make the final, but it's a blind draw rotation so there really isn't anything to complain about unless you get the harder path.

I think you just made his point. The blind draw is what made it possible for two Lexington area teams to make it but one had a relatively easy path and one had probably the hardest path ever to a State Championship. I don't know of any team in any sport that had to take down then #3 (Boyle region final), #2 (Notre Dame), #1 (Sacred Heart), and #6 (Simon Kenton) just to get to the final. This was an historic run by West.

But what I'm saying is that it proves the fact that anyone has a chance. Just because they are from the same area doesn't necessarily mean they both don't have a chance. It emphasizes the randomness aspect.

They have the discussion on the boys side pretty often but KHSAA is concerned with participation not necessarily the best team being crowned.

It could (and does) happen in the Sweet 16 basketball tourney.

Got ya. I do think that is some of the reasoning behind going to random draw is so that more schools have a chance to advance farther from time to time. This was just a year where it really came out one sided.

Probably seems worse in soccer because the difference between the good teams and everyone else is so pronounced.

That's exactly right. In basketball there are several rural counties that can play with the big boys in the sweet sixteen because basketball has been a serious sport all over the state for years. In soccer not so much in the more rural areas.
