Bowling Green 42 McCracken County 14

Final

No running clock. Purples choose to run ball in second half trying to take clock down to zero with no injuries.

Stats later

I believe I heard Cash Jones left the game with an injury. Anyone have details?

Hurt his hip but it's not serious. I think they took him out for precautionary reasons more than anything.

From a McCracken perspective, the Mustangs really shot themselves in the foot all game long. Five turnovers (none for BG), almost all of them costly and giving the Purples points. BG's last TD was the fluke of all flukes, getting stuffed on 4th and 1 from the goal line and fumbling twice as the play continued before picking up the loose ball and scoring.

Don't get me wrong, good teams like Bowling Green make their own luck and again, had ZERO turnovers, but McCracken has to feel like it should have been a much closer game. BG must have felt so, as it for the most part kept its starters in until the end (Carothers did come out during the last drive). I guess that was to get them some extra reps before the postseason.

All in all, poor showing by McCracken with the turnovers and poor kickoff return which pinned it deep and led to a BG pick-6. But the Purples took advantage of the breaks given to it, as good teams do, and proved to be the better team.

I just got back to BG from Paducah. I would probably disagree with most of this statement.I thought McCracken showed up to play. They played hard and showed they could have some success. They scored on their first two possessions, they moved the ball fairly well up and down the field for a lot during the game.

BG caused most of those turnovers, they didn't just happen. BG's defense is great at doing that. They are coached and taught to do that.

This game should have been a running clock game. BG played a very sloppy second offensively. It was the worst second halfthey had played all year by far. I'm not sure what the deal was.

I would like to say McCracken County has a good team. They came to play, they played hard, but BG was just too much for them from to to bottom. I will say I was impressed with their kids, they seemed to be class acts, helping players up,tapping them on the helmet after a good play, no cheap shots. I was also impressed with their facility. It was top notch for sure. The fans seemed like good people, I really enjoyed the trip up.

Now on a side note there was one official that I feel needs to be investigated for bias and unfair penalty calling. This one official did some unbelievable things, stuff I've never seen before, the entire game. I really feel the tape should be sent in for evaluation and this particular official fired.

The Mustangs came ready to play and gave the Purples all they wanted in the 1st quarter. After that, it was all Purples. I was impressed with this McCracken County team. They have a lot of heart and did a good job keeping the Purples out of the end zone in the 2nd half and avoiding a running clock.

McCracken has outstanding players, unreal athletic facilities for a public school in KY, and a student body of over 2100. Playing in 6A is a tough deal, but there is no reason this school should not be a consistent power. Two years vs. BGHS, the consistent flaw is turnover margin. If that is their mode of operation against teams of similar talent, they will continue to be a good team, never great.
