2018 Maui Invitational Field Announced

Recommended Posts

As a fan, all I ever want out of these Thanksgiving tournaments is a win in that first game. Win the first one, and you'll get two really good games in the next rounds, win or lose.

Lose the first one, and you'll end up in the consolation bracket and quite probably leave the tournament (even if you win the next two) without seeing a good team.

You can't imagine how much that is discussed in coaching offices, AND, how much impact that first game has on your RPI at the end of the year.

Despite how much I'd like to forget the final of last year's Advocare Invitational, Dayton walked out of that tournament with decent wins against Iowa and Monmouth. I'm convinced it was a huge boost for us come the end of the season and tournament time, even though that seven seed ended up being something of a curse as we ended up discovering that ten-seeded Syracuse was a sleeping giant en route to a Final Four.

I assume they'll set this up for the championship to be the winner of a Xavier/Arizona semifinal. That really will be a great event.

With the rise of quality fields in other tournaments (especially the Battle for Atlantis), it's nice to know the Maui is still the Maui.

If you mean Arizona and Xavier in one semi, and Duke in the other, than yes. I agree.

WAIT WAIT WAIT!!!!!!

I just put this together...

No Chaminade!?!?

From this article

"The 2018 event represents the first time in Tournament history that eight Division I teams take the floor on Maui, a format which will continue in the following alternating years (2018, 2020, 2022 and beyond). Chaminade, which has hosted the Tournament since its founding and produced national headlines following upset wins, will continue to host and compete in the Opening Round on the mainland during those years. For 2019 and the following alternating years, Chaminade will compete in the Championship Round on Maui."

May start having to slush a few bucks away for a Maui vacation. :bunny:

I would absolutely love to attend a Maui Invitational one year.
