I believe with the new rule where official time is kept on the field, this is probably the correct call. In the past, you'd have had more referee discretion but this sounds correct to me.

Rule has always been that official time was supposed to be on the scoreboard. Nky just never did it.

 

Time is up when time is up though. Ball in mid flight, doesn't matter no goal. Hence why I argued last year that schools should be required to have a speaker and horn in order to do it. Don't need refs trying to watch the field and the clock at the same time.

Yep time is time in high school no stoppage added, as the clock is stopped when needed. The whole ball has to cross completely over the line before time ends

There was no stoppage time. If the clock was stopped and time kept on the field that just means the stadium clock hadn't kept up with the times the referee had signaled the clock should have been stopped. As imsays indicated, high school soccer stops and starts the clock for certain things. There is no added time like in spring soccer.

Oh I see what you're saying. I'd rather not have false sense of security from clock then when I'm waiting for time to be called .. lol

A. The ref handled it perfectly on the field. The PA person counted down like is supposed to happen. This is how time is kept at the division one college level.

 

B. The reason you do this in high school is because there is not a 4th official to tell how much extra time is to be added.

 

C. The problem is, in most of the second region schools, they do the "stop the clock at 2 minutes" thing and allow the ref to keep time on the field.

 

I'm sure the hoptown fans were surprised by the ruling but it was handled perfectly by the ref.

B. might have been been the reasoning behind the difference in high school(though I doubt it) but it's an absolute fact that according to high school rules time cannot be added with or without a 4th official. All the games from the point forward have a 4th official and regardless of that, time will be kept on the scoreboard and only corrected by the referee if the operator fails to start or stop when instructed.
