At its Oct. 21 meeting, the University of Kentucky Board of Trustees approved the construction of a new baseball stadium with a price tag of $49 million.

Most of the funding for the new stadium will come from private fundraising, while a $6.5 million five-year loan from UK’s General Fund will cover the rest.

The new stadium will be located off Alumni Drive, situated between UK's new football training facility and the Bell Soccer Complex, where UK's soccer practice field currently sits. Construction is set to begin in February and is estimated to take 18-20 months, with the target completion date is late fall of 2018 to be open for the 2019 Kentucky baseball season.

Capacity for the new stadium will be 4,000 total for regular season games, including permanent seating for 2,400 as well as additional grass seating. For NCAA Tournament games, the seating can be expanded to 6,000 with the addition of bleachers beyond the outfield wall.

So Clif Hagan presently seats 3000, they want to build a $49 mil stadium to seat 4000 with a possibility to stick temporary bleachers in the outfield for 6000. Seems pricey.

Why can't they build a new basketball arena or doll up Rupp better? I would think basketball pulls in a hell of a lot more money.
