Very strange game.

Bethlehem got the go-ahead score early in the 4thQ, then got a scoop-and score on the ensuing possession after C'ville QB fumbled away a wet ball, making it 22-8.

Next series, midway through the 4thQ: C'ville goes for it on 4th and 8 from the Bethlehem 23. Snap comes in high, QB races back to get it and is nearly sacked at midfield. Ball squirts out and a C'ville player picks it and runs it down inside the Bethlehem 20. Bethlehem whistled for a dead ball foul after the play was over, but the yardage on the run was short so C'ville turned it over on downs.

After that, mayhem. C'ville sideline loses it, and players do so as well.

By the time the dust cleared, two Campbellsville players and an assistant coach were ejected. Was told one of the players took a swing at the head ref. Every official on the field throws a flag.

When play resumed after several minutes spent trying to calm the C'ville sideline down, officials marched off 60 yards of unsportsmanlike conduct penalties against C'ville, taking the ball from the Bethlehem 12 to the Campbellsville 28.

More flags come after that as tempers continue to flare. Teams are called back over to the sidelines again. After another long delay, there was talk of calling the game with 2:50 to play, but they eventually continued.

Just weird all around.

Campbellsville got hosed on a weak pass interference call on a td pass where both kids were battling for a ball. That call single handledly changed the game and Bethlehem capitalized like good teams do. Cville players did lose their cool but as a fan I couldn't really blame them based on pentalty ratios. And just for the record there wasn't any coaches thrown out.

I had heard there was one, but I wasn't sure.

As far as the offensive pass interference call, it was legit. The receiver pushed off before any other contact was made. Just before both guys went after the ball, the receiver extended his arms to gain separation and that's what drew the flag. It was tough to see from the grandstand side but clear where I was.

I had both teams penalized 10 times each (there were at least three other offsetting penalties), and more than 120 yards assessed against each team. Bethlehem's were spread out, while all of Campbellsville's came after halftime.

I'm not sure I understand. If there is a dead ball foul against Bethlehem, even if the runner was short on the play, you assess the 15 yards and Campbellsville gets a first down. What gives?

My understanding is that the pentalty had to occur during the play for Campbellsville to be given the first

Correct. The foul occurred well after completion of the play. At that point, C'ville had come up 4 yards short of the LOS on the 4th down and long play and it was already turned over on downs. If it happens during the play, then yes, C'ville drive would have been extended. It was no different than a PF call against the kicking team at the end of the return on a punt play by then.
