Adequate field

Featured Replies

Does anyone actually verify that a field is of adequate size and has adequate lighting? Several fields in Region 1 are on the small side. Is distance measured back of net to back of net or front?

I would imagine the turf fields dimensions/ specifications are a constant so the khsaa only needs to be told once. The grass fields that occasionally host are where you get some variation.

But whose job is it to make sure it's in compliance? I think this may be first time this facility has been used as regional site.

Each round the field size changes so for instance, districts is 55 to 80 by 100 to 120, regionals is 60 to 80 by 110 to 120, and state games are 65 to 80 by 110 to 120. The state is responsible for monitoring this through the various AD's in the region I believe. You can see the soccer field requirements online at KHSAA

Yes, I saw that which is what made me start asking. I think khsaa needs to be getting out their measuring stick.

Schools can request an exemption if close to the requirements or there is not another field available.

Really? Okay. The way I read it there were some things go that could be compromised but not lights or length. I understand if it's maybe 10 yards. There are a couple I have wondered about. One specifically I think would be considerably shorter. I thought they would maybe have the original school host but use another schools facility. I realize that would be complicated too. I feel like it's a big advantage to that home team being used to playing on such a small field. Of course everyone will play on the same field but still... I'm kind of a rule follower. Rules are rules.
