A few key matchup in the lower half of the Top 10. #5 Ryle takes on #9 Cooper, in an anticipated NKY battle, who wins and proves they are ready to fight for the top spot in the region? #7 St. Xavier takes on #8 Manual after taking a loss to #1 Trinity, who proves they are ready to move up in Louisville 6A? Who could move up next week? Who is in danger of moving down? What teams are just outside the Top 10 waiting to move in?

Why is Xavier below Lafayette? St. X performed better against a common opponent (Trinity), and it isn't like Lafayette has a win that would boost them above the Tigers. The Scott County game was won by forfeit after Scott was in the lead and their next best win was a shootout with Bryan Station, a team that was handled easily by Cooper and Tates Creek.

Why is Xavier below Lafayette? St. X performed better against a common opponent (Trinity), and it isn't like Lafayette has a win that would boost them above the Tigers. The Scott County game was won by forfeit after Scott was in the lead and their next best win was a shootout with Bryan Station, a team that was handled easily by Cooper and Tates Creek.

I think it may be a little more complicated then just wins and loses. St. Xavier has two losses one being to #1 Trinity, but another to Bowling Green. Next week they face a very good Manual team that is undefeated at this point. Lafayette also took one on the chin by the #1 team, but can we really compare scores against Trinity? What was happening in those games? Was all three teams playing their starters the entire game? A loss is a loss and comparing one or two scores is not going to tell us a lot. I think if the Tigers are able to prove their superiority versus Manual next week we may see some movement. Lafayette has a real chance to win out, could they take a loss to any future opponents in the regular season? What does the playoffs look like for both St. Xavier and Lafayette?

Trinity put a running clock on Lafayette in the third quarter and Lafayette only scored against the second string. I'm still not hearing anything about Lafayette that says they should be above St. X, but I suppose we'll just have to agree to disagree. What score differential does St. X need to have against Manual for them to move up in your opinion?

To start with, they have to win. Secondly, I would say two scores would get people talking.

Throw the Scott County game out the window... nothing was decided in that first half. You can say SC was ahead before they forfeited and I can say it was a nearly tied up game with Lafayette making a strong move down the field just after half. They'll get to play again.

 

The Bryan Station game was NOT a shootout, despite the final score. Lafayette had essentially doubled Station's score and pretty much put in second and third string for the rest of the game. I guess that says something about their depth, but that's about it. The starters handled them easily enough by the third quarter.

 

Having said that, they do tend to have defensive lapses. They might put a team into 3 and out with negative yardage on a few possessions and then give up a big play in the secondary on another. They have good athletes, but need better discipline. I wouldn't argue that they should be ranked any higher than X, but like the poster above said... it's pretty much Trinity and then everyone else.
