Summit Country Day travels to CCH on Tuesday Oct. 4, kickoff @ 7PM under the lights.

 

Summit is currently ranked #3 in Ohio and #1 in Cincinnati. Bringing with them a record of 10 - 1 - 1, 63 goals for/7 goals against. They are on a 7 game win streak.

 

#7 CCH is 13 - 4 - 2, 64 goals for/13 against. They are on a 5 game win streak/ 4 straight shutouts.

 

Predictions/thoughts?

I'd say this is the best team that CCH will see all year, Just as they were last year. Good prep game to get them ready for the post-season. With that said, I think they will have trouble putting more than one goal up on Summit while at the same time keeping them off the board. CCH defense is playing well but this is a tall task. I'll say 3-1 Summit.

 

The loss of Jacob Blom is a big blow to CCH. Out 4 weeks the last I heard.

I have never seen Summit. Judging by the height of the players on their roster, it appears that they would be a possession based group. Is that accurate?

They will certainly possess the ball and they have in the past. I believe they just pounded Sycamore over the weekend 8-1. They also beat St. X handily.

Pretty sure Summit played St X (OH) back in pre-season.

Summit's two toughest games (by a wide margin) to date were St Benedict and Penn Charter, I think both are prep schools from up east.

 

In a classic, CCH 2 - Summit 2.

I would agree Blom will be missed, hopefully he is back in time for Regionals. I heard Ventre may be ready to go, I would try him at OSMid in place of Blom.

 

This will be another good test for CCH, good prep game for the post season. Summit is a lot better then any team they will face in the 9th region. Summit will likely have the ball a lot, CCH must stay organized and disciplined. And when they get their chances in front of the goal they HAVE to finish them.

Summit is better this year than they were last year. CCH is worse this year than last year. Summit will dominate the midfield and hence possession, they have the best midfielders CCH will face all year. I'm pretty sure they are all D1 prospects or have committed already. Someone can clearify if they know.

 

Let's not forget last year, that CCH barely touched the ball in the 2nd half.

 

This year, Summit beat Elder 5-2, Sycamore 8-1 & 7Hills 4-0. The avg spread on all their wins has to be like 5 goals. Last year's leading scorer is actually starting this year. From what I was told, Summit was beating St. Benedict's for most of the game and St. Benedict's scored 2 in final 5 mins.

They play like a high level club team, probably because a lot of their players are on CUP, KHA, OE, and a few other clubs' top teams. Quite simply they are loaded. Unlike most HS teams Summit can start 11 quality players and maybe bring in a few off the bench. CCH will be under a lot of pressure and they will need a good effort from everyone. Good thing is this CCH team has done it before, Vs @ Trinity and @ Anderson. Can they do it again, yes!

Can they also loose by 3, 4 goals, yes.

IMO If CCH is going to have a chance, Jeremy will have to play a 4-5-1 and get the boys to play defense as a unit, clog the middle and take their chances. I agree with That's What She Said, CCH will be constantly under a lot of pressure. They will have to be patient, take the pressure and wait for their chances. The chances will come. Summit plays a 3-5-2, the chances will come on counters. CCH will have to finish the few chances they will get.

 

Summit will score, NO DOUBT. It's just how many and can CCH finish the few chances they will get.

Who cares about ODP? That's just silly. More importantly, how many D1 players do they have? Like stated before, they seem to be stacked with some of the top Club players in the Area.

If they have 4 D1 kids, that is incredibly impressive. However, if they have 8 kids in the top 20 or so in the state at their age, that seems worth noting. Without question, when you face a Mason, a Summit, or some of the other top Cincy schools (Anderson this year, as an example), you're going to have a lot of top club / MRL level players to contend with. Sorry for asking such a silly question, when it came up today, silly or otherwise, that seemed like a glut of elite talent on one team (beyond just the 4 D1 kids).

I'm not sure this is the most important measuring stick, yes D1 players are typically very good but who is making this determination? I can also think of several ODP players that are very good but they might not play D1 in college.

 

I am pretty sure that last years Cincinnati Enquirer Division 1 Player of the Year, and High School All-American, is not playing D1 in college. I also remember him being selected to a Youth National Pool a few years ago.

Depending on the year and the state ODP can certainly be diluted. Some very, very good players simply make a decision to not participate in the ODP program for a number of different reasons. If any of Summit's players are on the Regional ODP team (Region II), then this is a different story. Even thought this regional ODP team can be a bit political, it's still a nice thing to have on your resume.

In summary, CovCath has a lot of good soccer players, and Summit has even more. We all good?
