Good kid still has opportunity for a future. What could be interesting is how the NCAA views this new academy when its leader has a 10 year show cause. And the academy does not seems to have a school tied to it. And Where is the money coming from to fund this? The roster has kids coming from all over.

Funding must come from sponsorships (i.e. shoes, clothes, etc.) but I wonder how a 1st year program gets set up? I also wonder if there is any classwork that goes along with this or is it strictly playing basketball? And I wonder why a kid would have to redshirt the first year if he does go to college? Makes you wonder how legit this really is.

This one did say it was an Adidas school. They travel a bit too. What do one of these cost to attend?

The Academy web site gives out more information, but also leaves many questions unanswered. Post grad prep schools lost some drawing power with recent NCAA rules changes towards core GPA. No longer can kids go to Post grad academies to improve their Core GPA. They can improve their ACT/SAT scores which is the only academic benefit. I personally would think going to a JUCO for two years is a better option, but if a higher test score could help a player become a non-qualifier then it does allow you to be at a 4 year school with 4 years eligibility when a transfer from JUCO usually only leaves two years remaining at the 4 year school. Only select schools allow partial qualifiers and the red shirt year is part of that gaining eligibility.

 

The money question is intriguing. Unless someone has a ton of money and is wanting to help kids in a charitable way there has to be at least enough money coming in to pay for everything. Even well established places typically have pay to play players and scholarship players to generate some revenue. Good info...Thanks. Explains why it just mentions SAT/ACT prep classes and the need to redshirt even if they get picked up by a college.

 

With it only being established in May of this year, I think it's all brand new. They probably only have the 1 team this year. Now the question is...Will TNG last long term?
