Ryle 1 Cooper 0

Featured Replies

From reading the Update thread on this match it appears this game was very close. Is it fair to say both keepers had one goal saving save each and the foul call that set up the free kick which allowed Ryle to score may have been a bad call?

Interesting result to me, I would have predicted Ryle would handle Cooper with a lot less trouble. Was both teams at full strength?

Result puts Ryle in the driver's seat in district 33. I fully expect these two teams to meet again in the district final, will Ryle host?

I think that Ryle is good defensively but is a bit offensively challenged from what I've heard and Cooper has a pretty solid defense so I expected a low scoring match in this one.

It was a very close match and both teams seemed to play pretty well, a better officiated match would have probably made it more enjoyable for everyone to watch. Other than awarding the PK, the first half was not terrible but the second half just seemed to be one bad call after another and this caused the match to have absolutely no flow at all.

Bedel did make a great save on the only shot Snow had during the run of play. Boles also turned away a PK attempt from Ryle in the first half. The lone goal came off a wonderful free kick from the top of the 18 in the second half. As I mentioned in the updates, this was a great kick but I hate that a bogus call is what led to it being awarded to Ryle.

This was a game controlled by both defenses, both teams only had a few scoring chances, Cooper possibly had a slight edge here. I also feel that these two should meet again next month, at Cooper, and unless one of them does something differently on the offensive end of the field I would expect to see another low scoring match.

I've never quite been able to figure the formula or system that determines who host the district, regional, subsectional, sectional, etc.

Sounds like Cooper is hosting the 33 district this year? Is is strictly done on a rotation, Cooper's turn this year? I would have thought the team with the best district record would host. But I can understand doing it on a rotational basis to spread the wealth, gate and concession revenue.

I believe that most, if not all, districts are done on a rotation basis. And yes, Cooper is hosting both boys and girls this season. I am not sure if the host school keeps the money, I thought I had read somewhere that it was split between the schools.

I would be OK with the top seed (as long as it was Ryle), hosting the 33rd each year. ;)

Maybe Boone, Connor, and Cooper (all have really bad soccer fields, especially in mid October) could agree to give up their turns to host and hold it at Ryle each year. Atleast until one or more of those three upgrade their facility.

fat chance in upgrading those fields any time soon. BC board or ed dug that grave years ago for any that know that story.
Curious , so was the pk awarded in the 1st half a bad call?

IMO, yes... not even close to a foul and from where I was sitting, it looked like the ball was already out of play.

I am pretty sure that grave is located right beside the "No playing on Sunday" grave.

Sounds like Bedel and Boles are getting alot of attention as some of the best GK'so in the region. As for the defense you mentioned who is the main players for Ryle and Cooper. Ryle lost Roe and Cooper lost Adams who were both 1st team all region. We're they replaced with similiar quality?

Cooper still has Cornforth, in my opinion, he is just as good as Adams was for the Jags last season. He was named to the All Region Tournament Team last season.

So two bad calls against Cooper? The PK that was saved and the foul at the edge of the box that set up the free kick, lone goal(of the game) for Ryle?

Man GPR, of all times to be offline, it would be this afternoon. I didn't get to see your post before it was changed, you must have said something that was a no no.

Yes, I did mention two bad calls against Cooper, I think there were many more than that. I would say that I can remember several against both teams, maybe in the neighborhood of 10-12 of them that had me scratching my head. As I mentioned earlier, i think a better officiated match would have made last nights contest more enjoyable for everyone.

I do not remember saying the free kick was the result of a foul, I'm pretty sure I said it was a bogus call.
