UKMustangFan Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 Hospitals Won't Bill Survivors of Shooting for Healthcare Costs Not sure how I feel about this. On one hand, it's an awesome gesture and something I can get behind. On the other hand, I can't imagine them just eating the $5M+ in costs, which most likely means taxpayers will pay for it. I can't support that.
theguru Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 I am with you, on one hand it is awesome, on the other hand someone has to pay.
lawildcat Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 If I lived in Orlando and had hospital bills, I'd be very upset at this gesture. And yes, it's going to trickle down to the taxpayers, I'm sure.
ColonelCrazy Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 I'm sure the hospital billed any available health insurance and will simply write the patient balance portion off as bad debt, creating a huge tax break (and good PR). It sounds like they'll also pursue any other sources of payment arising from this senseless tragedy, but they won't be pursuing the individuals for any unpaid portions. Makes sense to me.
plantmanky Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 Im sure they are 1099 ing every person who has their debt written off like the law says, so in the end the taxpayer(person) will be paying for this one way or another.
OlDog75 Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 I am with you, on one hand it is awesome, on the other hand someone has to pay. I bet you and I are conversing with that "someone".

This was the first thing that came to mind when I read the thread title. Admittedly, I have yet to read the linked article, but I would be surprised if you are not right in your assumption.
