Find Grippos in your local Kroger, Dollar General or nearest convenient store. Opening Action The first week of action can confirm the predictions, provide surprises, leave you holding your breath for the following week or leave you scratching your head. The power rankings have a bit of all of this this week. I will indicate that I did not want to over react to one week (or no weeks) of results. So let’s go down the list. Confirmed Ranking leaders Lafayette and Scott County confirmed they are setting the bar in Central Kentucky. #1 Lafayette let Dunbar get the jump on them early but, as good teams do, came back with a big win. In the game of the week, #2 Scott County jumped on #8 Tates Creek early. #7 Bryan Station held on against a solid Wayne County on Saturday. #10 Danville took care of LaRue County in easy fashion. They come out of the game looking good for 2016. Hold Your Breath #3 Lexington Catholic beat 6A Grant County as expected. But at half the spread was only 2 (14-12). The Knights have two challenges coming up – St.X in the Bluegrass Bowl and then a road games against Johnson Central and Covington Catholic. #9 Boyle County lost to 6A North Hardin by 1 point in overtime. The Rebels came out stronger the some predicted. Next up is #1 Lafayette. Can the Rebs outdual the Generals? If they do or keep it close, it may show that Chuck Smith has Boyle ready to go for the season. Head Scratchers Anderson County and Mercer County both lost their openers. Anderson lost to a 5A South Oldham while 4A Mercer lost to 6A Central Hardin. Both teams have work to do. Surprises and notable wins Garrard County (3A) beats Shelby County (4A) behind Jacob Foley’s 298 rushing yards. East Jessamine (4A) beat 2015 3A Semi-finalist Elizabethtown. Casey (4A) was all over Powell County in their opener. Frankfort (1A) beat a rebuilding Paris (1A). Madison Central (6A) beat Knot Central in a defensive battle, 8-7. 8/22/2016 Rankings 1) Lafayette (6A) 2) Scott County (6A) 3) Lexington Catholic (3A) 4) Henry Clay (6A) 5) Bryan Station (6A) 6) Boyle County (3A) 7) Danville (2A) 8) Mercer County (4A) 9) Anderson County (5A) 10) Tates Creek (6A) The Next 10 11) Franklin County (4A) 12) Garrard County (3A) 13) Lexington Christian Academy (2A) 14) East Jessamine (4A) 15) Madison Central (6A) 16) Madison Southern (5A) 17) West Jessamine (4A) 18) Casey County (3A) 19) Frankfort (1A) 20) Marion County (3A) Game of the Week #1 Lafayette at #6 Boyle County, August 27 8 p.m. PBK Rebel Bowl at Boyle County.
