RoCkMaN28 Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 New season begins this friday for both Rockcastle and Bourbon Co. So let's hear it who wins and why?
GC_Lions Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Not sure what Bourbon brings to the table this season!! Good test for the Colonels entering this campaign. Rockcastle is going to be Rockcastle and run the football. I'm going to take the rockets in this one. Close game though. RC 27 BC 21
ColonelPride Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Bourbon County has a RB that is a star in the making in Sophomore RB Adam Renfro, in a previous post I said think Brent Holman's style with Kentayvus Hopkins body. On D they'll be led by Dalton Williams, and T.J. Whetstine. The key for a Colonels victory could be there vertical passing game and if Titus Ransom is healthy after sitting out against Knott Central in a scrimmage and finding a QB out of the 3 they've rotated throughout the scrimmages. Whetstine is also a proven target in the receiving game.
RoCkMaN28 Posted August 23, 2016 Author Posted August 23, 2016 should be a good game this Friday. Rockcastle returns everyone except one player. The defense is the best I have seen them play in a really long time. I don't see any team being able to run on rockcastle this year. If bourbon county can throw the ball then the game will remain close. If they try to rely on the run then they won't have a chance. Rock held there own against belfry in a scriminage and limited belfry running game to my surprise. Our D is going to be our anchor. Rock- 35 Bourbon-21(less if they can't pass)
rockcastleraiders Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 My heart says Rock, my head says Bourbon. Rock 26 - Bourbon 21
AreLinz Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 I'd say Bourbon's biggest worry is not having a QB with Varsity experience, and their first game is against what seems to be a very stout Rockcastle D. I pick Rockcastle to win based solely on that fact. But I could also see Bourbon winning if the QB can escape pressure.
GC_Lions Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 That's what every Rockcaslte fan said last year too. But I remember Garrard getting anything they wanted on the ground last year. Except they couldn't finish drives and turnovers killed them. Let's let Bourbon Co. see if that defense is all its talked up to be. I will not be a believer until they can stop a team that can run the ball consistently like Garrard does. Even with that said I still think Rock wins the game vs Bourbon, but in close fashion.

Ask Belfry how the defense looked in the scrimmage

To be fair, Garrard County has a good line. They were one of the better rushing teams Rock played.
RoCkMaN28 Posted August 24, 2016 Author Posted August 24, 2016 I was attempting to give an honest assement of our overall growth and development as a team. Our team as a whole have got bigger and stronger. Our line will be our anchor, if we was able to impress the belfry fan base with how well we was able to stop the run and with how well we tackle and how hard we hit then I take that as improvement from last year. Our ability to stop the run was good last year we only allowed 1145 yards rushing all year in 12 games. That was 95 yards a game average. We should hold teams to less than that this year. I will just let the game this Friday night do the talking; you and everyone else will see the difference. But don't worry GC_lions your garrard county team Will see first hand soon enough ;-)

My only thing was that the same thing was said last year by another fan on this website. He ran his mouth about how bad they were going to beat everybody and how good Rock was. No hard feelings. If you impressed Belfry there's something to say about that. Good Luck Friday night and we'll see you all in Mt. Vernon September 9!!

Legacy12 Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 Going with the Rockets in this one, I used to love watching that team play back in the day, hard nosed kids in Mt. Vernon.
rockcastleraiders Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 Maybe ATLCAT can chime in, but I'm not sure Rockcastle stopped anything with Belfry from what I've been reading around. I will say that I have noticed that all of the Rock fans and every person who was a unbiased general observer said that Rock looked as good as a team facing a line with 4 or 5 Division-1 players. However, all the Belfry fans give comments that seem to sound defensive, as if they do not want any chinks in the proverbial armor. I think filtering through all of that we learn that Rockcastle was quite impressive considering they were up against at least 2-3 of those D-1 players. However, if Belfry turned up to 100 in all facets and opened the playbook they would have dominated. However, I think Belfry is going to dominate everyone they play this season, lol. I think Rock is better because they players are stronger and faster than last season. More importantly, they are as healthy as they have been in years. There were a TON of injuries last season.
