Qryche11 Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 This is why I dislike soccer. I appreciate the athletes but ties should never happen. Play til midnight I don't care but someone win the game,
imsays Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 I'm sure it felt like a loss for highlands, no snow and many missed opportunities.
groinpull Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 Good result for Cooper if they played without Snow.
Sir! Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 The HHS student section struck up a chant for Adam Snow several times. Not a lot else to cheer about. Highlands played unispired with no urgency, no rhythm, no flair and no finishing. Cooper organized and defended well and their GK had a couple nice saves -- gotta be encouraging for them.
gameplayedright Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 Sounds like a good result for Cooper. Their defense is pretty solid, obviously they will score some goals this season. Question is their midfield. Against the top teams will their midfield, when put under pressure be able to get ASnow the ball enough in good scoring positions to do something? At this point I see Cooper and Ryle coming out of the 33 district.
Yellow Card Posted August 17, 2016 Author Posted August 17, 2016 Agree with imsays, probably feels like a loss for the Birds. From a Cooper perspective, they should be very happy to get away with a tie and their defense should feel good about keeping a clean sheet. In the first half, Highlands had a couple free kicks just outside the box and were not able to convert on either of them. There were also a few instances when someone was left open for a shot and they were not able to finish. Cooper did not do a good job of creating many chances, or testing the Highlands back line in the first half, I also feel Highlands did a little better job of controlling the run of play. The second half was all Highlands, I am guessing that possession was about 80/20 for the half and the Cooper defense definitely got a workout. I'm glad I was watching the match from the railing because the majority of the half was played on this side of the field. Cooper did not really threaten this half, I can't remember them actually attempting a shot on goal. In addition to a shot that Gish hit off the crossbar from about 25 yards out, there were at least 3 other times that Highlands looked like they would get on the board in the second half alone. Austin Boles made a terrific save to keep a shot out of the upper corner. Another shot that made it past Boles ended up being cleared off the line by Cornforth and there was another time that the ball bounced around inside of the six without anyone being able to put it in. The Birds had several other shots turned away but these are a few instances that stick in my mind. Although the weather was not great last night, it was good to see a decent crowd show up... kudos to the Highlands student section for their support of the players and the entertainment they provided us throughout the match.

With losing three players in the middle, it will take some time to adjust but I think they have a good plan moving forward. Once they get a couple players back from injury I think they will be OK.
groinpull Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 With St. Henry and Trinity both looming I would think Highlands will need to put it together pretty quickly.
Never offsides Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 Very impressed with Coopers back 4 under such immense pressure for almost a full 80 it seemed like. Sophomore GK Austin Boles looks to be a real asset for the next 3 years for the jags. I think once Snow gets back their attack will open up with all attention on him. But with a defense playing solid you don't need to create 40 shots per game. All Snow needs to do is capitalize on 1-2 chances let the defense do their part. Good start for the Jags. Highlands in the 2nd half looked alot more composed and created more opportunities by pushing their outside backs into the attack. This created alot of confusion in cooper's MF and just couldn't seem to finish. I believe the biggest problem going forward for Highlands is their lack of a striker. I look forward to seeing their game against Trinity.
