Beechwood Baseball Question/thoughts

Is this 2016 team better than the 2004 state runner-up team?

I don't know much about the 2016 team but watched some of the 2004 team as underclassmen (played with most of them). I think the 2004 team was better coached but don't think they have the talent that this year's team has. Just my opinion, wanting to see other thoughts.

Let them win a region first and then see what happens. Long way to go. That 2004 team was good and the 2005 team was damn good also.

I thought the state runner up team was in 06. This year's team is more talented, but Beehwood was much better coached under Meyerhoff.

The 06 team was the runner up, Curly, Sawyer and Elliot lead that team. The 04 team lost in the quarter finals to Trinity, Wera, Muth and the elder Slusher were seniors.

Got the years mixed up. The 2004 team made the state tournament before losing to Trinity in the first round, Wera and Sickmeier led those teams.

The 2005 lost on a walk off HR in the regional championship to CCH and the senior class was Hoffman, Slusher and Alford.

The 2006 team was led by Curley, Sawyer, Muth, Elliot and Chas Moore and they were the state runners-up that year.

IMO, the 2006 team was better

In my opinion, Chris Curley is better than anyone on the current team. I know he didn't get the D1 scholarship but he was a dominating player. Cody Elliot was a sophomore I believe on that team and also was very talented and went to Ball State on a D1 scholarship. You had Sawyer who was a great athlete. Tommy Bankemper was an excellent pitcher. There was a lot of talent on that 2006 runner up team. Don't sell them short in the talent category. They won 37 games. They won the All A tournament.

The year before as juniors, they lost in the regional finals 2-1 to a Cov Cath team that went to the state semi finals.

As sophomores, that 2006 senior class was on a regional champion team that made it to the final 8 in the state.

So the 2006 seniors were state runners up, won two regional titles and regional runners up (regional record of 8-1 in three years) and won an All A tournament title. That is a heck of a resume.

This group of seniors has two All A titles as their greatest accomplishments. They have a very talented senior class also with 3 D1 scholarship players (two baseball, one football) and others who will play college baseball on scholarship. I think I agree that this team needs to win this regional title and do well down state to build a resume worth comparing to the 2006 team.

Any way you put it, that was a heck of a run they had. Lots of talent and some tough kids. The 2005 region final was my favorite game to watch still. What an atmosphere that night.

Rob Quast with the walk-off. Indeed it was a great atmosphere.

Thank you for the correction. I did indeed get my years mixed up. I was on the early years of the rebuilding of Tiger baseball. That 06 team were freshmen my senior year. I believe a couple of them got some varsity time as freshmen. I know there has been a lot of talk about Tiger baseball this year, just wanted to get some opinions about this years team compared to past years teams. Thanks for the info.

Related note: Chris Curley hit for the cycle tonite for the Marlins AA team. Good for him.
