Lexington Catholic Knights - 2015 Grade

Featured Replies

B

2015 Lexington Catholic was like a box of chocolates, you never knew what you were going to get.

On the plus side the Knights made it to the 3A Title game, the beat 3A Superpower Central, they beat Boyle County, and they beat Covington Catholic. Those were three super quality wins for LexCath.

On the negative side, Cooper and Belfry flat out embarrassed the Knights and they lost home games to both Ryle and Johnson Central. Don't get me wrong everyone, those were four solid teams LexCath lost to but it was still four losses with two of them being dominate losses.

I like the recipe at LexCath but the Knights need some more meat and tatters in the stew.

Do you agree with a B for the Knights? What grade would you give LexCath?

B-

The prototype of the student who had to bust their tail in Organic Chemistry because it was a notch above their head, but took their 81 Percent and was happy about it!

It got ugly at times with some D's to the point some thought they would drop out or just give up, but right when they were ready to be counted out they would stay up all night cramming and pull off an A on the exam.

B+

The + was earned via extra credit for getting through the QB challenges. Brumbaugh came in new and was then injured after it seemed he was finding the grove. The Knights had rally around two reserve QBs with Fagot and Thompson who each brought different strengths to the position and successfully made the change.

Even with the 'D' games the Knights defense had to rebuild after losing some top seniors - including a BGP All-State LB. Early was rough - leading to the first losses to Fayette schools. But the game against Central showed their progress, earning some complements from Central parents on the sidelines when the Knights stopped some some plays that, according to the Central fans were unstoppable all year.

The bad games pointed out that football is game of strength and size. The Knights had no answer for the big lines of Cooper and Belfry. And when the offense struggled in both games the D just could not get stops against well executed ground and pounders.

After Brumbaugh went down and with the defense still finding itself ,many were ready to flunk the Knights out of the classroom. But they made a run and took care of district and playoffs. But that final exam was a killer.

This one is a tough one, for me.

They made it to the championship game, and had an immensly harder road than Belfry. But, that didn't make a difference in that whomping in the finals. That game was bad, and wasn't even good for someone who isn't a fan. They looked over-matched and especially over-powered. I thought it had the potential to be a good game, and was wrong. Majorly wrong.

They had 4 loses to very good teams, and beat quite a few good teams along the way. Even an E-town team that made one heck of a run this year.

I would be tempted to maybe give them a B+ simply for coming through the west side of the region in 3A. Give them an F for the championship game.

If they were more competitive in the finals, I would stick with the B+. But they weren't, so I'd probably have to say a B-. Although, I think that end result was coming, no matter who came out of the west.

I think the 4 losses are irrelevant and would be similar to getting an incomplete on a Science Lab assignment. The purpose of those Lab assignments is to make you better prepared for the State Science Fair If you make it to the State Science Fair and lose, so be it. The point is you were one of 2 individuals in the entire state who qualified for the Finals.

The fact that the winner of the science fair was a junior NASA scientist and their project was clearly deserving to win, does not lessen your accomplishment. JMO
