Game was played at Florence today. Nick Jackman started for the Tigers and Doty started for the Birds. Both guys didn't look like the had great stuff tonight but they both battled. Brayden Combs led off the scoring with a solo shot to right, his third homer of the season, in the 2nd and it was a no-doubter. Highlands was able to push a run across in the third after a walk, two balls in the dirt and a run scoring ground out to short. The wheels fell off for the Birds in the third and BW erupted for 7 runs. Beechwood loaded the bases and senior Kyle Rowe hit a 2 RBI single up the middle. Combs followed with his second homer of the night, and fourth of the season, a 3-run shot that skimmed the wall in right. Beechwood loaded the bases again and junior Trevor Soward doubled down the left field line, scoring two. Beechwood would score 4 more runs in the fourth behind an RBI triple by Combs, taking a 12-1 lead. Senior Ryan Bankemper pitched two shutout innings to close it out and mercy rule the Birds.

Although this was a tail whoopin they have played a grueling schedule and no better time to work out the kinks then against great competition. Beechwood is for real though, Combs can definitely mash.

 

I think the Birds are going to be a 1st round Regional team that nobody wants to face. They have good pitching, they only need to get 3 good starts to win the Region. I think Raisor, Doty and Rom should be fine.

 

Congrats to the Tigers though, very impressive.

Highlands' problem in this game was mostly pitching and somewhat fielding. They hit the ball very well with only 1 strikeout and many balls hit well, just right at beechwood fielders or they made impressive plays. Congrats Beechwood, solid squad this year
