Green County 2016

Featured Replies

What does Green County need to do to improve in 2016? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

Even though Green only won 4 games last year, they were close in all of them except for 2. I don't know what players they lost or anything like that, but, if they build on last year, there is a real chance that they could get several more wins.

Heck, I'd say if there were a few plays that had gone differently in 4 of those loses and you'd be looking at a team that won 9 games. With all of that being said, Monroe is still Monroe and Glasgow is still a solid program devoted to winning. They're in a difficult district. Their cross-district? Ever harder.

Green could have a wonderful season, host and win a playoff game, and then face a giant in Desales or CAL in round 2. It's a rough road with plenty of work. But, from everything I've seen and heard, Coach Jackson is the guy who can get it done.

Green is going into season 2 under head coach Hunter Jackson. Despite losing a decent size senior class, the Dragons could be very competitive in 2016. They must fill the QB position after graduating Austin Matney but will probably do that with up and comer Andrew Mosby. Running back position returns several ball carriers from last season and a decent offensive line. If Dragons can fill holes on the defensive side of the ball, look for them to possibly win 3-4 more games. Could pull a shocker against someone in 2016 and put a run together for a decent district. Can the Dragons overcome Monroe Co and Glasgow? We'll see in little over a month. The pieces of the puzzle are there and Coach Jackson along with former Coach Mike Griffiths, and a veteran staff, keep your eyes on this Class 2A squad.

Lots of holes to fill, gonna say 4 wins is likely again. Not enough fire power to win a district game and will likely be on the road for round one of the playoffs vs CAL or DeSales. Who do they play in the Campbellsville Univ. Bowl game?

I wouldn't be so sure of your 4 win prediction. Good source says this team will be better than last years. Not sure of the CU Bowl game schedule at this time!

Nor would I on your 8 win prediction. Lol...but that's the fun of off-season!

Honestly haven't seen the 2016 schedule, just assumed its pretty close to last seasons. The Dragons were really close to their 4 wins last season being 7. Matney is big shoes to fill in their style of offense at QB but with solid play at that position, we could see the Dragons reach 6-7 wins

Did find out that the Dragons will face the Barren County Trojans on August 26th in the Forcht Bank Bowl at Campbellsville University. Despite Barren being a 5A school, this is a game they should win.

We lost some key guys in matney and houchens & Atwood along with several other solid kids like Calhoun and Suratt. Have a lot to replace.

Lost 3 games last yr vs cville, Monroe, and Glasgow that we easily could have, if not should have won.

Brewer will be one of the better linebackers in 2a and should Be the primary ball carrier as well. Likely lost a key player in Andrew Davis who was injured during baseball.

Will need lots of guys to step up. Not sure what to expect but I trust the coaching staff to get the most out of the talent we have.

Have heard the numbers are good, will be important to get all of the freshmen from last year back and maybe add a few.

Will likely have to beat either Monroe or Glasgow to host a playoff game and avoid either CAL or DeSales in the first round.

Schedule (may not be in correct order and missing one opponent)

@ Russell

Vs Barren (@ CU)

Cville

Taylor

Danville

@Metcalfe

@Glasgow

Monroe

@Larue

I agree Winterweather, they do have plenty of holes to feel. However, sometimes new faces doesn't mean less talent. I can forsee Mosby possibly getting the snaps as the starting QB since he took most all snaps last season in JV. A heavy dose of Brewer and maybe a young Ford gets some carries as well. With the schedule you stated, 6 wins are very possible and depending on how the staff gets this group to gel, we could see 7 possibly. Definitely need a win over a Glasgow or Monroe Co to avoid a 1st round playoff visit to DeSales or CAL. Interested in seeing how it all pans out.

Lexington Christian is the other game.

I agree on Ford, he has the potential to be special

Not 100% certain on dates or order but the Dragons schedule should look something like this...

Aug 19th @ Russell Co.

Aug. 26th vs Barren Co. @ CU (Forcht Bank Bowl)

Sept 2nd vs Lex. Christian

Sept. 9th vs Taylor Co.

Sept 16th vs Cville

Sept 23rd @ Danville

Sept 30th @ Glasgow

Oct. 7th OPEN

Oct. 14th @ Metcalfe Co.

Oct. 21st vs Monroe Co.

Oct. 28th @ Larue Co.
