If it wasn't for two costly errors they still might be playing this one, as NewCath drops a tough one this afternoon on a beautiful day for softball in Newport.

 

Louisville Presentation pitcher, Sr. Taylor Lee, is one strike away from throwing a NO-HITTER, but on a 2-2 change-up, NewCath's Lexy Breen hits a solid single to right-center to collect the Breds only hit of the game. NewCath could only total 4 base runners for the game. (2 walks, a hit, & a reach on E6).

 

The Breds Haley Meyers is throwing a no-hitter through 3 full, but in the top of the 4th Lou. Presentation leadoff hitter, Madeline Meagher, laces a sharp single to center. Following a PO5 and GO1-3, Ashley Swearingen hits a single that barely cleared the infield over a leaping Lexy Breen at short. She advances to 2nd on a steal and the next batter, Courtney Jackson, hits one to Alex Burkart at 3rd and her throw to 1st is a little high, but Kennedy Bin catches the throw, and when coming down to step on the bag (would have been the 3rd out) she drops the ball and both runners score.

 

In the Toppers 5th inning, with one out, Taylor Lee gets on via an infield single, Abby Shipley hits a "flare" that just does reach the grass in right just out of the reach of Kennedy Bin at 1st base. With runners on 1st and 2nd, the next batter, Ashley Swearingen, hit a "flare" to the right of 2nd basemen Jenna Fryer who goes 3-4 steps, reaches, catches the ball, but bobbles it 2-3 times and drops it. As the runners are now on the move to advance, Fryer collects the ball, but her off balance throw to 2nd is wide and one run scores.

It was supposed to be a 3 team triangle with Ryle, but Ryle could not make it.

We were but we decided not to play. We didn't want to show our Double Top Secret Weapon...J/k Evidently Presentation couldn't pull it off because they were over scheduled for the year and didn't have any Rain outs yet. But yet they were going to play Ryle before they dropped out. See you guys Monday night...

As you might know, most coaches over schedule as they factor in rainouts and the possibility of not being able to make some of those up. Presentation has had ZERO rainouts on the season and are over scheduled, thus they have to drop a game or two to stay under the 36 game max. Since they were scheduled to play Ryle they were going to honor that, but when Ryle dropped out it was sort of a relief to Presentation that they didn't need to play another game.....since it would mean dropping someone else on their schedule later down the road.

 

When I called Coach Coffey to see if he would be interested in playing Presentation I told him I had to clear things with Presentation first, as I was trying to get Presentation a 2nd game since they made the trip up and were scheduled for two games). Coach Kuerzi told me to thank Rob for the offer of the chance to play the Birds.

 

They will be coming up next year FOR SURE, per Coach Kuerzi.....I'll make sure it is a NewCath/Highlands/Presentation triangle.

Looking forward to Monday's night's match up and seeing all the locals….

We (St. Henry) lost 9-4 to them Friday night. We had 8 hits...2 which would have been out of 200' field). The Presentation pitcher was definitely one of the best we have faced this year. Coach Kuerzi was a good dude.
