15th Region Coaches Association Awards Voting & Banquet

Featured Replies

The Head Coaches of the Boys’ Basketball teams in the 15th Region have released their annual 15th Region Coaches Association Awards Banquet/Dinner. The banquet will be held at the University of Pikeville Cafeteria at 2PM Sunday, April 10th where a buffet style dinner will be served. The dinner will be 9 dollars and is optional. If you would like to attend they ask you use the parking structure and sky bridge at UPike for entry. Wireless internet and room for cameras will be available.

How did the voting work: The 15th Region Coaches Association took up ballots from each coach and voted on a 15 member All Region Team, POY, and COY using a points format for the players. From the ballot each coach was asked to rank the top 16 players in the region 1-16. If a player received a 1st place vote they were awarded 16 quality points, a 2nd place vote netted 15 quality points, etc. The player with the most quality points was named POY and the next 15 to include ties were named All Region (no first team, 2nd team etc. just one team). The Coach with the most votes was named COY. Each Coach was unable to vote for their own players or themselves (COY). Votes were tallied by a non-partisan 3rd party and they had 100% participation from all schools in the 15th Region.

How is this different from the KABC?: The KABC can have multiple members from each school vote, only name a senior as POY and do not recognize other players from the region. The 15th Region Coaches Association allots only one vote per a school from the Head Coach, names an All Region Team, votes after the season instead of late January and does not limit its voting to the Senior class for POY.

Awards: Each player will be given awards and a short bio of each player will be read during the ceremony.

Congratulations to all the players the coaches selected for this year. Again all are welcome to attend as the Coaches Association put out this information in a press release today.

so half the players in the region either made the all region team, or honorable mention? Seems a little excessive.

How in the world is Robbie Russell not Coach of the Year or at least Co-Coach of the Year?

If you consider the fact that the average program has 25 players (Freshman, JV, Varsity) and the 15th Region has 16 teams. The All region team represents 4% of all the players assuming each player had a shot at making varsity if they were good enough.

If you just look at varsity and do 15 players x 16 teams then the 16 that made all region represent less than 7% of the players. If you add honorable mention and just consider varsity then you still have less than 14% of the players. Could you please validate your argument a bit more as I dont see how most of the region got honored.

I think this is the correct amount and the Association did a good job. Its great to see slightly over 10% get honored by those they compete against.

Very good question. I thought Robbie did a great job this year, but each head coach cast his ballot and although Robbie did get some votes he did not get enough.

Glad to see that Region champ Lawrence Co was well represented and that it was not all about PPG. Too much emphasis on scoring avg and not bigger picture of team success when choosing a lot of post season awards....as evidence of Mercer's Will Hager not being recognized for some State awards. Hope Trevon Faulkner gets the awards down the road that he is absolutly earning with his play.
