Winning Big in Scrimmages?

Featured Replies

Does it do a team good to play a weak opponent in a final scrimmage and win big to build confidence or would you rather play a tough opponent and possibly get beat but learn more about your team?

I vote for the tough game.....that way when you are playing for real....your kids don't get intimidated by the sudden upswing of talent....

I agree HHS /Male was a great test for the Birds. I have to imagine the boys on the Birds D have a little to prove against their next opponent.

I would like to play a tough team. I believe in treating a scrimmage like a practice. It would be nice to play a very good team to warm you up and get you used to playing in the season. I also dont by any of this beat the dog out of these teams to build confidence. You should'nt have to do that your team should already have enough confidence.

If you an established program then you should probably play a tough game, but if you are a team that hasn't done well recently then playing a game and winning in a scrimmage could give them cofidence they need.

I know I played for Ludlow and we had a 31 game losing streak, so in Coach Hensleys first year at Ludlow we scrimmaged a good team in Newport which we tied, and then Pendleton County who just started a football program, and we completely dominated them. I know that game gave us alot of confidence cause we got to see what it is like to win, and then we went on to break that 33 game losing streak and ended up actually making the playoffs that year too. So I think if your a team that has struggled recently it would be good to have a scrimmage game against a team that you probably could beat just to give your players some confidence..
